(WARNING GRAPHIC PHOTO) Is this normal bleeding for haemorrhoids?

Posted , 13 users are following.

So sorry to subject people to this but as per title, i need some peace of mind that what I'm experiencing is typical of other sufferers.

My consultant had refused to look at a photo of the blood when i tried to show him, after being asked how much blood i was passing.

I just feel there's a lot combined with clots every time, and even you Google what a"normal" amount is, most descriptions are very ambiguous.

Just had my 3rd banding done today am in quite a bit of pain this time. Spoke to the consultant beforehand and mentioned the large blood clots I'm passing and he said it's completely normal and nothing to worry about.

If anyone else has been passing clots can you please reply and confirm to me that this is "normal" as I'm finding it hard to trust him?

He said at my last appointment that if this didn't work, I may have to live with it. According to him, they don't consider regular bleeding (as in the pic) to be a concern!!!

I've been on 400mg of Ferrous Fumarate daily for the last 3.5 months to treat low serum ferritin. At the time my haemoglobin levels were normal.

I've just had a CBC test again yesterday and I'm now mildy anaemic despite being on high strength iron supplements all this time. My GP said that it's definitely not my haemorrhoids bleeding making me anaemic as, and i quote, "You've got more chance of winning the lottery than becoming anaemic from haemorrhoids".

Can't wait for my next consultant appointment in July to told I'm going to have 4th banding...

4 bandings? How long in between. What was your recovery, more so the uncomfortable feeling, bleeding after the bands fell off? They say 1-2 weeks after the bands fall to heal

I've had a clear flexible sigmoidoscopy. i think the original picture is the reason I'm anemic. persistent chronic bleeding over a year..

i think the doctors see so many people worrying about blood from hemorroids that their default response is, "it's nothing to worry about, it looks worse than it is".

in my case though, I'm not being melodramatic as I'm losing enough blood to make me anemic, despite being made to feel like I am.

3 bandings over the last 12 months, The bleeding had been consistent and unrelated to the bandings as far as i can tell. Each time I've had a little pain for a day or two afterwards.

i think I'm going to demand a hemorroidectomy at my next appointment as i feel massively run down and even taking 2 x high strength iron tablets per day isn't counteracting my Ito lots from bleeding .

I went to see my consultant today and he wants to do an urgent colonoscopy to make sure he hasn't missed anything.

He said that whilst it's not impossible, it's rare to lose enough blood from hemorroids alive to become anaemic as a man.

If everything is clear from the colonoscopy, he is going to do a halo ligation.

im aware this is an old post but just wondering if you ever managed to stop the bleeding?

      Unfortunately not 😪

I am about to get the HALO op in the next month so hopefully that will stop it.

i had about the same amount of blood each time i sat on the toilet for 10 days straight. i didnt even have to have a bowel movement i just had to pass wind and the blood would pour out of me.

im booked in for a hemarroidectomy within the next 3 months.

Nearly 2 years now for me and sick of being constantly tired and run down.

Hopefully our ops sort us out! 🤞

Just to update everyone in my current situation.

I managed to reverse my anemia with iron supplements. Yay! or so I thought...

For the last 6 weeks I've been bleeding daily without a break and have become anemic again.

My Hb dropped from 146 to 104 in 6 weeks.

The bad thing is it isn't due to iron deficiency aa my iron is normal, meaning I'm losing blood faster than my body can replace it. 😢

To add to my woes I've been told i can't have my HALO op as I'm under investigation for heart issues and they won't do the op until that's resolved.

Hang in there. I have no advice but I just found that I have some type of colitis and not hemorrhoids and I will need to get colonoscopy. Dealing with any kind of disease freaking sucks...

Hopefully things get better, best of luck!
