1 year down

Morning fellow hippies!! Well I'm coming up on a year since my revision. As most of you all know I had my first hip replacement then 3 weeks later I'm having a total hip revision due to a dislocation. It was traumatic for me as I had to be non weight bearing for 6 weeks. It was so hard not to be able to get around and doing what I normally did. I'm still not feeling better as now I'm having nerve pain and sensitivity in my thigh. Has been going on for 8 months now. Injections, medications are not helping much. I saw my surgeon and he has lifted more of the restrictions I had. This time he referred me to a neurologist to see what is going on. I'm still so stiff and limp without my cane. It's been a disheartening ordeal for me. I try to think positive and have hope one day I'll wake up and finally feel good. But it's hard......it's like I'm never going to feel better again......this forum has been good for the most part, giving me a glimmer of hope, some ideas and support. I've tried to do the same for others....but some days I just don't have it in me. I feel like not getting out of bed. I'm unhappy with my outcome if only I could get over this nerve pain!! I'm not in the bone on bone pain anymore. I don't see much on this forum from other hippies about the nerve pain and sensitivity in the thigh and wonder if I'm that odd ball! The one who will get that one condition that's rare! Please note my first surgery was anterior, the revision was posterior. Thank you all for your support, and advice. Wishing you all the best and God's blessings!! Hugs 🤗 Linda.

Morning Madla. I’m so so. I’ve started taking the lyrica 3x a day now but it makes my mouth so dry and my lips too. I’m waiting to try the back stimulator. Dr says it will take care of nerve pain and sensitivity. If God would grant that to me I would be able to endure everything else!!! I’m sorry you are back in pain again. It’s terrible being in pain all the time especially after you have this surgery to get out of pain!! Wishing you all the best. Hugs 🤗 Linda. And I’m trying to stay positive but it’s hard! Sometimes I have to take a tramadol. But I take 2/3 a pill when I do.

Hi Linda, so sorry to hear that you still have so much nerve pain. I am 2 weeks post surgery now. Recovery slower than I thought & also a couple of setbacks. I was worried about my gastritis & post op meds but managed ok in hospital although queasy much of the time. Sent home with a load of drugs including Ultracet - Tramadol family. Took one 1st nite home to get a good nights sleep. Woke up at 5:00 am feeling dizzy - needed to go to the loo so set off with my trusty walker. Half way there I could feel the blood draining out of my body & knew I was going to faint. Fortunately I have help & she practically carried me back to bed. My heart was beating so slowly I was sure it would stop. Anyway I slowly felt better but clearly no more of that drug for me - or it's cousins. So was left with Tylenol for pain mgmt. not enough. Was told I couldn't take my drug of choice Naproxen as I had to take blood thinners. Struggled thru 2 dreadful days & night in a fog of pain & gave up. Quit the blood thinners & took Naproxen - such a relief! The second issue was the super high dose of antibiotics I was given - Keflex 2,000 mg/day - normal dose 500 mgs. Of course my stomach gave out - so now down to 500 mgs - hope this helps. Otherwise walking around my 1 level house 3-4 x day/ to the loo - with my trusty walker of course. Doing my passive exercises but feeling disappointed I am not more mobile - anterior approach was sold to me as a pretty easy recovery. Not quite true. I would like to know for how long other hippies had to take blood thinners & antibiotics for? Linda, not sure how you manage the nerve pain I sympathize - when I could only take Tylenol I felt as though I had a TENS unit attached to my leg set at an excruciating high level - unbearable! Naproxen fixed it. Still there but very low level now. Btw, I was given Methycobal - a vit B 12 specifically for neuropathy - have you tried this? 500 mcg 3 x day. Wishing you & fellow hippies the best! Maureen

Morning Maureen. Wow sorry to hear you’re story. I had tramadol and it’s worked well for me. I still take as needed. Mostly 1/2 a pill. I think the lyrica is making me feel a little weird sometimes. Also affecting my mouth. Soon I’ll be trying the spinal stimulator. The psychiatrist I had to see yesterday before I was able to do this trial said if this was going to work I would know within 3 days! I would feel 100% better!! 🤔🤔. All I want is for the nerve pain and sensitivity to be gone!! I’m experiencing a lot of back pain now especially since we have had rain for almost a week now! The humidity is so high and my back hurts a lot now. Well here’s hoping that we get to feeling better. Hugs 🤗 Linda

Hi Linda, how long did you need to take blood thinners & antibiotics for after surgery? Have given both of them up as stated& am a little worried. Please check out the vit b 12 I suggested, supposed to help with neuropathy - not sure if it will help you, your case sounds like a real challenge. I really hope you can find someone who can help you. Best wishes. Maureen

- thanks Sandra. Can't take blood thinners with Naproxen. But given my difficulty with pain medicine am stopping them for a few days. Naproxen works well for me. Surgery no challenging than I thought! I guess we all have our own individual issues. Cheers, Maureen

Good morning Maureen I never took blood thinners I was taking a baby aspirin probably for about 2 to 4 weeks after surgery then after that I didn’t need to take it anymore as for antibiotics I don’t remember ever having to take them after I got home. Yeah I’ve been taking a vitamin B 12 for months now and you’re right my situation is a challenge. 😢 I’m hoping that this spinal stimulator will help at least that’s what my pain doctor is saying. and that is the one thing that if God would grant me just to take away this pain and sensitivity from my thigh I could take anything and everything else. the back is one of the other problems I have but it’s nothing compared to this thigh. Hugs 🤗

Thanks for letting me know. Will switch to baby aspirin & take my chances. Was planning to stop Naproxen tomorrow & wasn't looking forward to it. Next week will have the acupuncturist come to the house. Acupuncture works well for nerve pain. I have Morton's Neuroma in my feet - nerve damage to the ball of the foot - in my case caused by jazz ballet. Acupuncture resolved it. Are you in the US or the UK? Luckily as I now live in Thailand acupuncture, physio etc is SO much less expensive . Thanks again!
