10 weeks since I had my prolapse operation

Just wanted to give a follow up to my operation. It went very well, a sore backside for one week. Didn't have a bath for a long while and followed all the doctor's advice. She still wants me to do 100 pelvic floor exercises every day, which I can only manage about 20 if I think about. I have tried sex once about 2 weeks ago but didn't feel comfortable. I am going to wait abit longer. The only thing I am not happy about is I get incontinent playing tennis. I am back to tennis and play 3 times per week but jumping around and being quite active I have to wear a light pad and on a Sat playing the men I feel the leakage will show. I also ride a bike not far nearly every day. I am close to 71. I am very glad I had the operation and hope my incontinence improves. I never had it playing tennis before. I hope someone with the same situation can say the incontinence will disappear.

Hi Jennifer, glad you're doing well. However, just my opinon but I think it may be too soon for playing tennis or other sports which but stress on the pelvic floor muscles until a few months hence! Our muscles and tissues do deteriorate as we get older, I'm 73 and have similar problems, waiting for prolapse surgery at the moment. Third time for me as most of the work I've done involved heavy lifting and standing for quite long periods. I used to ride a bike to work but not for about six months min after surgery and no sports except swimming and walking for about the same period. If you want the repair to last you should take care a bit longer so as not to risk permanent incontinence. Tennis puts a lot of stress on the pelvic floor. I'm sure others will come and give advice too.

You sound like you are doing really well Jennifer, especially being so active at 71.
I manage about 30 -45 pelvic floor exercises at just over 9 months post op.
I was told by my physiotherapist not to do any exercise where my two feet are off the ground or any running and that was a good year or more after my 1st repair. I would have thought that tennis would not be good ?
I had been use to going to the gym regular, cycling, and swimming. Since repair cycling and swimming fine within moderation but most of the gym equipment is no go. Allowed bikes, or uphill walking on treadmill but no running or anything where there is any resistance. Not allowed any down pressure on my repair or it will fail again. Fairly easy to follow thus instruction at home but very difficult at work.
You are doing really well if managing tennis without doing any damage to your repair, but I would think that incontinence may be a warning that the bouncing about is not good. I was also told no trampolining.
Anyway if your consultant has said it's OK then he/she probably knows better. Take care and happy healing.

Hi Moonwitch1, I did all of the above for many years, prior to my operation, so it was'nt like anything new for me bike riding and tennis.. I have googled other sites to see how other ladies have fared particularly when to resume sex. I can only go on what my Gyno gave me permission to do and what I have read.

Hi Jennifer. I have to say I admire your stamina. The only thing that bothers me is the amount of pelvic floor exercises you're expected to do daily. My gyny physio said to me about 40-50 was my aim. I'm only doing 30 long and 30 quick daily and I feel that's enough. I had A&P repairs and a tvt along with a full hysterectomy back in April so no problems with leakage. I had got back to my cycling after 5 months. Couldn't have any earlier as vaginal area was still very tender and now poor weather has put stop to it along with some pain I have developed since returning to work but back under consultant checking things out.
I hope your water works corrects itself and you can resume tennis confidently.
Fiona. X

HI Jennifer. Make sure you do your 100 kegels a day - get the squeezy app if you don't remember it will send you reminders 3 times a day. Not only are you still recovering, but you are doing high impact sport....you need to be aware that this is not recommended. Please get strong if you must...
Also have a look at EVB sports shorts - they offer 71% more support - they are brilliant - you wont regret buying a pair.
Your pelvic floor needs all the support it can get!
Good luck.

Yep, Google them, I dont want to incur the wrath of the moderator as I wasnt mentioning them to get a link, only to make women on here aware of them. Even if you end up wearing them as outer support wear and can only afford 1 pair I would invest. EVB Sports Shorts were designed by a female engineer, and they took over 1 year to develop. I think the majority of women on here need all the help they can get to support their ops/remaining organs and to prevent further prolapse. Enjoy your Twixmas Phyl x

Will have a look. First time I had repair was aware of some kind of support pants but never managed to track them down; still only doing my two contract shifts but at 9 months post op would like to try building up some overtime and hoping a big of extra support will help.
I am also hoping to restart my cycling in the spring as soon as weather picks up and they sound ideal for this kind of activity. Hopefully my pelvic floor should be strong enough and recovered enough by then.
Thanks again, have a great new year,
Phyl x☺

Hi steph,
Just Googled them, they are rather expensive. I suppose the best way forward are the pelvic floor exercises and watching what I eat and if I still want to gradually get back to lower impact sports maybe then it might be worth it.
I don't shift weight easily via just my diet and get terribly unfit unless I'm doing cardio... exercise. Would also really like to start building extra shifts up at work so maybe this would help.
After all would spend as much on a pair of shoes so maybe if it helps support the pelvic floor while at work and helps me get some heart pumping cycling to help stay healthy, that's got to be good.
Definitely want to avoid reprolapsing yet want my healthy lifestyle back. Healthy lifestyle is so important for quality of life in these later years.
Anyway will have to wait till I recover from all the recent winter expenses of Xmas, heating bills, new wardrobe (went up a size after this repair), and will get my spring holidays by and do a little saving first. Meanwhile back to the exercises we can do.
Hope you had a lovely Xmas and have a great new year,
Phyl x?
