12 cm dermoid cyst could it be cancerous

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi

i have been ttc for 3.5 years to no success so i have been referred to the fertility clinic. Upon this referral i have been told i have a 12 cm dermoid on my right ovary and will need surgery to remove it (12 week waiting list) I may possibly lose the ovary and tube.

I am soooo worried because at the age 23 i was diagnosed with 1a1 cervical cancer (adenocarcinoma cancer of mucus glands)

I have now convinced myself that this cyst could be cancerous too.

I get a dull back ache, sharpe stomach pains , groin and thigh pain. I cant sleep and worry all day.

Has anybody been treated at St . Marys manchester ?

Thanx

Hi Stacey - I'm no expert on this but after a laparotic hysterectomy last Tuesday I now have to wait for 2 more weeks to see if the biopsy comes back as cancer or not. I felt so well before the op that I'm hoping they removed things before any damage has been done. The majority of cysts (I had 2 removed -5cm and 8 cm-plus uterus, ovaries cervix and omentum) are benign. Talk to someone professional about your worries- doctor or practice nurse. The waiting for surgery is definitely hardest once you have your op you get loads of help to recover. After 1 week and at 74 yrs oldand with 24 staples still in my abdomen , I walked along our local seaside pier yesterday and ate fish and chips in the car! Feeling so good and I'm being careful not to do too much.Did your cervical cancer go?There are many women on this site who have had cysts and 1 ovary/tube removed whilst pregnant and still gone on to have children. I wish you good luck and peace of mind soon xx

Thank you so much for your reply sylvia.

Wow thats alot of staples, I hope everything's clear for you, your a strong women to walking walking around the pier just 1 week after your op.

I have had the all clear for 4 years now but the thought of it returning never really leaves you.

I am back at the hospital on Saturday so i am hoping i can get some reassurance and some questions answered.

Good luck with your recovery and keep us posted and your results xx

Hi Stacey- so glad you got the all clear 4 years ago and I would hope they have been monitoring you so I feel you'll be fine. We do tend to look on the black side (human nature) but MORE people don't have cancerous cysts than do.I will keep in touch. Let's know how you get on on Saturday. Good luck xx

Contact the MyOvacome helpline 02072996650. It is manned by nurses with personal experience of ovarian cancer. They are lovely and very helpful at saying what's normal and what's not. In my case they could say that the normal odds of dermoid cysts being Cancer applied And that these are 1-2%.

So just been for my 21 day hormone blood test, I asked the nurse if I could speak to her and told her about all my other symptoms dull back ache, sharp stomach pains , groin& thigh pain and a gurgling in my stomach for 7 weeks.

She told me it sounds like IBS and I need to see my GP. I then asked if she could check if my operation was scheduled?? To my utter shock she told me nothing was scheduled and the computer and my dermoid is 12mm not 12cm!!!!!

I told her that the doctor said I had a 12cm dermoid and needed it removed? that I could lose my ovary and would recv a letter in 8-12 weeks with an admission date??

She went to check my scan that I had 4 weeks ago at St mary's. She then returned to say that they don't have the scan (transvirginal) on the system!!!!

She told me she would check it out and call me in a couple of hours, 7 hours later and still nothing.

How is it soooo mixed up???

Hi Stacey- that's awful ! It's bad enough being in pain and worrying without this sort of thing happening. That means your cyst is 1.2cms which is better, hope you get sorted x

    Hi

So i received a telephone call this morning at 8am telling me that my hand written notes do say 11cm and surgery is required. I asked the nurse if I could come and get another scan to actually clarify what size this dermoid is?

She agreed with me and said I can go in at 12 o'clock tomorrow.

Finally I will know what's going on ☺ xx
