12 cm endometrioma - laparoscopy or laparotomy?! Terrified!!

Hi, I’m new to the forum and would like some advice and to hear other's experience in terms of their surgical procedure.

I found out in January that I have a 12x12x9 cm suspected to be endometrioma that needs to be removed. I also have elevated CA-125 level of 121 and the surgeon said she will try to remove it laparoscopically but there might be a possible conversion to a laparotomy. The gyn oncologist looked at my case and rejected saying it’s most likely not malignant.

Surgery is scheduled in April and I am totally freaking out as I don’t want to wake up knowing they have given me a vertical incision (the surgeon mentioned she will be doing a vertical incision over a horizontal one)with more post operative pain.

Can anyone share their experience of a cyst that large which have been removed using a laparoscopy? Thank you!!! 🙂🙂

No worries. Go by what doctor suggest. I removed 5.5 lbs of cyst couple of months ago. It was removed with

Horizontal cut under my belly.I was worried to death sine was not sure it’s benign or cancerous.

It ended up be benign but no matter what it would have been, I learned it’s important to stay positive.

      Thanks Mamnoon!

I hope you’ve had a speedy recovery! Could you tell me more about your recovery experience?

I was in lots of pain for two weeks but started getting better each day. Full recovery took 2-3 months.

You can always raise the questions to your surgeon so you can get some answers. Hope the best for you!

My stomach sometimes won't stop rumbling/gurgling for no reason even when I'm not hungry.

      Tracy,

My stomach does make grumbling sounds now and then. I did feel constipation earlier in January but I’m doing well with bowel movements now. Are you doing a laparotomy to remove your cyst?

How big is your cyst? Seems like your doctor is doing a laparoscopy for you. Healing time should be faster than an open surgery.

It is the size of your finger tip and they are removing my ovary and part of my tube

The cyst doesn’t seem too big. Perhaps you should get a second opinion if you do not want to remove your ovary and tube.
