12 week dizzy nightmare

Posted , 10 users are following.

my story is just like so many others on this forum,i could hardly stand up through dizziness and several visits to docters and a visit to a&e have not helped at all ive been told to just keep taking serc tablets, but i still feel so dizzy and the room feels as though it is swinging round i have not dared to go out on my own for 12 weeks, but 5 days ago as i was coming home from docters in a taxi i was chatting to the driver and she told me to drink some 7up lemonade, i didnt think anything of it but later that night i was in such a state with the dizziness i asked my daughter to go get me some 7up, and of course she said it wouldnt do any good and if im honest i did think that myself but i was willing to try anything, i started sipping it slowly as i hate fizzy drinks , and i was astounded that when i woke up the next morning the dizziness was not too bad  and as i continued to sip the lemonade the dizziness was going away then the next day i laid in bed expecting to be dizzy on getting up and i wasnt, so i dont know whats going on has anyone any idea why this would happen as we are told to keep off fizzy drinks, i have not had any serc tablets for 4 days and im feeling lots better  but still darent go out in case the dizziness comes back ,im waiting to see my docter to see what she thinks but will keep sipping the 7 up till i do   thanks   for reading this

    Hi Mary

I looked it up and 7up apparently contains potassium citrate and a friend recently told me that a lack of potassium can cause dizziness.  It has also been suggested that a lack of magnesium can also cause dizziness.   If it's helping you it might be the treatment you need, who knows, but hope you continue to improve. Going give it a try myself.  Thanks for sharing this.

hi anne i will  mention to my docter next week if i could be short of pottassium or magnesium i was thinking it was something to do with my body needing a sugar boost as fizzy drinks are known to have lots of sugar,,it feels strange not feeling dizzy when i stand up but for now i feel great and cant wait to see if its the same tommorow, thanks  mary

      Hi Marlene

thanks.  I don't eat bananas much,  can't remember when i last had one but will be getting some along with more peanuts and some 7up too.  I've been eating more peanuts this week and felt less dizzy so who knows, but it's all worth trying.

Hi Anne ,I can't eat peanuts or have peanut oil. Gives my IBS a problem . I do eat cashews regular ,I'm fine with them and walnuts .

Getting some 7up later on .

My ears are low today ,not good for me ,get the anxiety twinges today ,always when ears are low ,can't understand it at all .

Dont take meds for it just struggle on through today with it .

When loud ear days ,and it's loud ,loud if I nod off then when I wake up it's dropped, again weird ,I'm bload if I know what's the answer full stop ,one of the women on TT site has same prob with it as I do ,she says if she nods off  hers change ,she takes Magnessium Cloride ,every day . Got her BP down to .Our weather  again is that the problem to our balance ,I've said yes to this from the start of my balance .weve all on these balance issues ,got to have 1 or 2 connections to it .Hope your okay ,your know what I mean .

Be of interest to the 7 up ,told Gill by EMail ,she's having it rough past week with her balance ,she's said those Balloons waste of money ,done nothing for her ,E mailed me earlier . No doubt Darren will read this Anne

      Hi Marlene

any nuts will do apparently.  I have been looking all the foods that contain magnesium and potassium, there are a lot, mostly fruit, veg, grains and nuts.

Yes it will be interesting to see the results of the 7up trial by other posters.

Thanks for the update on the otovent balloons, i haven't got round to ordering them yet, but think i will just stick with ear plugs for my flight at the end of this month.  My ears will be buzzing for days so think it's worth a try.  My tinnitus has been loud pitched lately.

I agree the weather is a factor perhaps we are human barometers.

I don't normally drink fizzy drinks but will try the 7up.

I don't take any meds for the dizzies cos' none of them worked for me and were just a waste of money on prescription charges but i think i may start taking some antihistamine before flying.

I had IBS for a few years and then it disappeared as mysteriously as it arrived, hoping the same will occur with this dizziness.

Hope in the search for our needle in the haystack we come up with somethingsmilexx

Hi Anne ,so yours are high ,when mine are high if you can nap for a bit Anne they can drop down ,not easy when you work ,but when at home try it  just 20 mins will do it .

On the TT site I'm on ,yesterday they were talking about M S G foods  I got that up another interesting read .

Yes Gill says balloons a waste ,at least  7 UP is cheap to buy .

I've only had this IBS since virus I got 9 yrs ago ,never had that in my life .Go figure that out ,Weird how yours just stopped??? Glad it has ,that wears you down ,my food stuff is very bland ,stick to what I know is okay .

What a way we all have to live ,never right all of this.

Maybe this holiday will give you some respite ,Darren said he felt better when he went to see his brother in Malta few months ago,ear plugs your be fine on flight a must with Tinnitus .Just stay away from loud music or noise of any kind without them .Treat yourself on holiday for just going on holiday Anne . xxx

      Hi Marlene

A consultant on tv said the best diet for IBS is chips.

When i initially started with BPPV last september  i think it knocked my balance system so off whack that it took me almost a year to get my balance back, because i also had a couple more episodes of BPPV in between.  In the first days/months when it started sometimes I couldn't stand up resulting in having to take a month off work after about 7 months from onset.  Since then i have tried all sorts and now, please God, so long as it doesn't come back as severely as it did originally, i think i can continue working.  I have to keep remembering to do things more slowly, like getting out ofbed, getting out of the car, turning round, bending over, looking up, walking round supermarkets, basically any kind of movement,  resting from computer screen every so often, changing my diet, cutting down on caffeine, chocolate etc., Don't drink alcohol but gave up smoking, think a combination of changes may be gradually making a difference, of course if it all comes back full on then none of that has made any difference, but hopefully it won't.

The last bout was in April following a flight and some over extension of my neck whilst trying to hold something up over my head.

All part of learning what not to dosmile

Chips Anne things I learn every day ,never a chip person ,or pots in general,so hey in for a penny saying goes ,nothing to loose ,chips tomorrow .my cousin has said mash pots help her ,so your saying the same thing .

As for balance ,I don't eat chocolate ,never drink alcohol ,only 1 tsp coffee a day ,rest of day it's just water ,

only thing I can place my onset was 2 days prior was going to Osteopath for my rhinitis ,had this neck ache from start 9 yrs ,was the osteopath visit my kicker to my now balance ? My gut feeling says yes .maybe turning my head to both sides treatment wise do it .

Like you Anne ,I'm slow to getting up out of bed, then I do all what you do now .

im fine driving ,don't feel swaying ,just sat in armchair ,and walking  plus standing in one spot ,feels like need to prop myself up against something to stay upright .really uncomfortable to say the least .

I wonder why others say with tinnitus don't have this balance ,but some ,another puzzler ,look at Darren ,got the balance but not the tinnitus ,others say the same ,the balance on its own ,but Darren like us has eye probs ,and neck ache ,again our eyes have been checked and rechecked ,another lady Brenda has this but with tinnitus ,not living in UK .

So we've got tinnitus ,neck ache ,eyes, ear fullness ( with and without hearing hearing loss ) all with balance issue.

Were all different in ages  ,live various places ,so no connection there . And seems to be more females than men affected ??why .Need some Brain wave to figuring this connection out in all of us  and as to why it's been over various time span.In UK it goes from Scotland to here down South of the UK

If we've got all these ,there's maybe a dr out there having the same .

I know they get tinnitus ,insomnia ,and the flu ,so why not this .Cant just happen to us lay folk .Oh and I know 1 audiologist with Tinnitus .from my last hospital hearing test ,she had it testing me .

My ears quiet today  but tomorrow will most likely to be roaring Anne again driving me nuts .

Husband just brought me in 7 UP .popped out to get it for me .So off we go again ,will let all know if anything changes over next couple days ,

Hope you got feet up Anne xxx

Yes similarly i visited a physio the week before all this started who did some massage on my neck and crunched my back.  Sure that is a connection, probably misaligned something, also when i take ibuprofen for my neck pain overall feel better.

      Got my feet upsmile

So when you visited the osteopath did the ringing begin? I had my head turned both ways and that was my trigger.
