Posted , 10 users are following.

Wow.  This whole recovery thing is something.  I was doing so well, way ahead of expectations.  At 10 weeks I felt great.  Even over did it once.  Now the nerves start waking up.....sometimes the bottom of my foot hurts so bad I can hardly walk.  I just rest a bit then up and walk.  Now having aching in thigh and sometimes calf.  Saw surgeon yesterday...he said it is like your arm falling asleep.....when it starts waking up it hurts bad....but then all the sudden it is OK.

any advise out there????

sue, maybe not.  We all heal differently.  I am sure you will have some nerve sensations in the future...but maybe not pain.  I have been pushing it a lot and on my feet most of the day every day.

    Hi Pam,

I am 6 weeks post TKR. When I woke from surgery, my number one complaint was what I thought was sciatica. Turns out it is actually a swollen ITB ( illiotibial band). This injury normally gets marathon runners.

i definitely did not run a marathon while in surgery, however, it is swollen and extremely painful. Pins and needles, and it feels like my skin is raw from a burn. Like Dorkas10, I was prescribed nuerontin Gabba Pentin, and it brought immediate relief. It's not working anymore, and now I want to ask pain management team to switch me to Lyrica or something else.

I saw surgeon yesterday for first time. He didn't seem concerned, said " that happens sometimes", and then " I'll see you in a year, unless something unusual happens". P*ssed me off.

i don't think they realize the pain. I just hope the switch to another nuerontin will help.

      Jim,

i also, had the IT band issue early in recovery.  My pt would rub it out each time I was there...the rub out really hurts, but the relief is awesome.  If you can rub it out, make sure y rub in small circles...rub really hard.  Rub up and away from knee and then up the leg and thigh.  I actually used a rolling pin to rub mine out.  Also a stretch you can also do is...put your good foot directly above your effected foot heel to toe....then push your hip out to the side and hold.  Do in sets of 10 two times a day.

      hope this helps...Pam
