i know everyone has different experiences but I'm just wondering....I had my THR 13 days ago...I'm still feeling pinching in my hip. I also al trying to get off the narcotics. Just wondering how everyone else's experiences went. Do you wake up one day and say...wow no pain!? How long will this pain last? Or am I just being a big baby 👶😭😪😥

Some aches and pains and pinching my Dr. calls that healing. PT says it's like chopped liver in there. It's a process give it 8 months to a year and we'll never know we had a replacement. Hope that is true!!!

I am on day 19 and yesterday had my first whole day out !!

Very achy today and s bit stiff but persevering with the exercises too .

I think all the pinches and ouches are all part of the healing process . Today is also my first day with no painkillers !!!!!

Although I ache I don't consider it enough to be pain lol

It sounds as though you are doing really well so keep it up and rest in between action !!!!!!💁

congratulations on being out and about! Are you still on crutches or using a walker? I feel like I will be using mine forever !!!

I am using 2 sticks when I go out and one stick in the house unless I feel very tired or stiff

I have only just moved onto one stick lol

No not too swollen. I try to get up and walk every 20 minutes...this seems to help 😊

Peculiar aches and pains seem to be very much the norm during healing. As soon as one place stops another begins ! Yeas I was also told to expect the whole process to take 6-12 months.

As as for the pain, I realised one day that I had missed several doses of painkillers, so stopped. Have needed some once or twice when I have overdone.

Day 9 post op. Quite stiff. Still gave a little groin pain.... and sometimes a twinge like a nerve the will run the whole length of the leg .that could be from a l4 l5 slipped disk i had a few years as go.... im on painkillers. Seem to cope better with the aches and pain....im up and out on crutches. Some stores have a scooter so i utilise that. The only meds im on is painkillers ...no anti inflammatory. Or thinners. kast night i felt good so i crutched about 3 houses down the street and back. Woukd have done more but my hands became sore. I think im doing ok for 9 days

Quite a lot of people use gloves with crutches, 'cos of hand soreness

I bought some gel cycling gloves to help with this as your hands can get really sore with gripping the crutches. They weren't very expensive either, only about a fiver and I can use them when I finally get on my new bike that my hubby bought me! Eek! 😳

I'm starting week five and still have what I call "migrating" pains.  It could be anywhere from the bottom of my foot to my lower back and all the places in between.  Sometimes it's not too bad and other times I feel I need a pain killer.  Most of the time, now, however, it's just Ibuprofen.  In the beginning, I was in excrutiating pain from my knee and every now and again my knee still bothers me.  Sometimes the pains feel like a pinch, sometimes an ache or soreness.  Everyone is different so give yourself time.  From what I'm learning, when it comes to hip replacement, we're ALL big babies, in other words, we're NOT big babies.  It's physically and emotionally draining and my emotions go up and down like a roller coaster.  I also think it's a terrifying experience.  We are given so many admonitions about what we are or are not to do lest there be dire consequences (dislocation, infection, more surgery, God forbid!) and it takes so very long to recover that it's no wonder that we are in a constant state of anxiety. And pain is very wearing.  Healing takes a lot out of you.  Not knowing when it will get better is also wearing.  i'd say you are just like the rest of us.  Hang in there.  I've come a long way in these past 5 weeks.  Farther than I anticipated.

I am going into my 22nd day and I totally agree with you re the highs and lows ! On Friday I felt great , went out , walked 3500 steps etc but yesterday and today I feel sluggish with twinges here there and everywhere .

It is the fear of dislocation that looms over you that is do disconcerting and I am permanently worrying about it .

I've stated sleeping on both sides at night with pillows which is helping but as you say it is a long roller coaster ride but I am also amazed at how far I have come .

      Keep up

      The good work 😆😆😆😆😆

I'm 8 days post-op and totally agree with what you said about the warnings we're given and the do's and don'ts. I'm paranoid about getting a blood clot or dislocating the new joint! Am I sitting or lying right etc. Reading your post made me feel so much better about things. Have had 2  days of constant nausea, and has just occurred to me it could be caused by the heightened anxiety and constant awareness of the bad leg. This forum is a great help 😊

Your nausea could be caused by your pain medications.  I was SO nauseated when I was on opiates!  There are anti-nausea drugs that you can take that will help enormously.  If your doctor hasn't given you any, please call him/her and ask that you be prescribed some.  It will make your life so much easier.  You have enough to deal with in these first weeks.  There's no question that anxiety and stress can make nausea worse.  Whatever the reason, you don't need to suffer from it.  Good luck!

I was sent home with anti-nausea tabs, but only 10, so was being careful not to take too many. I spoke to the anaesthetist who is handling my drug therapy and he suggested I try doing without one of the opiates if I could. Stopped taking the endone which also gives me horrible dreams and am managing very well on just panadol and a patch. Nausea has gone and am feeling so much better! 😄

Endone made me vomit . Got rid if it... have panadine forte instead

Don't like endone either. Before my op my GP had prescribed tramadol sr so I could get some relief at night; had no problems with that at all. The patch is  norspan 5mg and lasts for a week. Been feeling fine since stopping the endone and taking one anti-nausea tab a day.

Your lucky. ..im alkergic to the anti neasea medication. If i feel sick its deal with it

There are several types of anti- nausea meds, sassybees. Has your doc tried switching to a different one as you might find a different one will agree with you?

Hi ali. Most docs will say the anti nausea drugs mainly have the same compounds. They say you MIGHT be ok on this one or that one but i just refuse them all. The allergic experience i had put me in hospital for a week. Extremely scarey. Id rather not take the chance. I get ocular gyro crisis. If you want to look it up.

Ah ok, sassybees. Yeah I'm aware of this condition but didn't realise your allergy to it was that severe. It's relatively rare but I do know from patients who have this allergic reaction that it is very scary so I can't blame you for your decision. I guess it's a case of trial and error to find the cocktail of drugs that give you the least amount of nausea.

      Poor you 😞

Ahh its ok ali. Im used to it. Feel sick and deal with it. There i s probably one now that wouldn't affect me but my stouborness says... nope.. just deal with it. Luckily i dont feel sick often

If getting a blood clott is causing you anxiety and you have someone to care for you, they can oil up your leg and give you leg massages. Tell them to push in the direction of the heart. In otherwords for the leg you massage from the ankle up towards the knee, towards the heart.

I duuno why so many of us seem to get irrational on a particular fear, trust me you are not the only one. However I never got nor wore those stockings, I hardly got out of bed for the first 3 weeks and suffered no ill consequences. So really try not to stress yourself out about blood clots. If you get one you will know as they will be painful.
