Hi there, doesn't sound good, but from people I've spoken to partial knee replacements are not worth having.

I saw specialist Monday about my back, the ligament which runs along spinal cord is imflamed hence pain .Got to have physio to start with but he said as soon as you leave here get on to your doctor's and get an appointment for that knee because you shouldn't be limping like that after 3 years, that's probably the cause of the back problems,he couldnt understand why they did a partial not full replacement due to history of back problems, was a very sporty athletic, showjumper at 51 year old now swimming and aqua are only excerise I can do at 54.

Defently not good after 8 months to go and have a full knee replacement but would go for it .My friends mum had both knees done ( full) at 78 years old at 81 you would never know she's had them done, dose the garden walks around a lot faster easier than I do.Keep me imformed on your condition and if you have a full knee replacment.Kim..

Hi I am so thankful to everyone of you sharing your comments. I have been goin really well with yoga, walking, e bike I just bought.  A slip of 6 degree on the lower knee replacement and results in a full knee replacement in September 2018.

I use Nordic sticks while walking . They are wonderful. I have been using them for nearly 10 years before my knee problems.

I do yoga and if you can try and learn chair shoulder stand. Read on line the benefits. Plenty. It helps swelling come down.

I had a Partial Knee Replacement  in Sept of 2017 and I healed fine and by Jan 2018 I started having a lot of pain in my leg and especially around the area that was operated on.  I made an appointed with my Surgeon and at first he said it probably was Arthritis and Scar tissue and prescribed me some Etodolac which is for inflammation.  After the medicine did not work at all and my pain increased almost daily I called him back and he sent me for a bone scan and found out that the plastic was coming apart from the cement in my knee which could be possibly causing all the pain and after being aggressive and the high levels of pain my Family Medicine Doctor sent me to see a Second Opinion Surgeon and now l will have to have a full knee replacement.  This Orthopedic Surgeon agreed that the Uni will have to come out of my knee and be replaced with a Total Knee now.  I will be having that July 9 2018 because I can barely stand the pain and the piece is hitting a nerve in my leg and radiating.....

That is so sad for you. But I am  sure you are glad to be a the bottom of it. I am exactly 3 months from a medial partial on my second knee and it is causing me all sorts of bother. I cant get going on a morning or after sitting for just fifteen minutes. Some days I can walk nearly a mile but most days I need a stick and have to take pain killers. It is very upsetting and frustrating and you do worry if something isn't right.

My worst nightmare is going through it all again as you are having to. One year after my first knee (June 2017) it still gives me bother and hurts around the scar and new prosthetic but nothing like the second one.

Good luck with you op and I hope you are eventually pain free.

Good luck Bradley and whatever decision you make check your doctor out thourly because it's not about the money it's about your lovely good and you need him to be an expert at it!! I want 4 to 5 starts and to have performed many procedures because I think allot of doctors or doing these for 💰 and we are suffering and not getting good ones like my first doctor but an expert is going to tell you the truth and show you how can off, because this is a very painful procedure!! Good luck again..

Thanks he is a good surgeon he did my clean out from my meniscus tear first then injections followed by the partial knee replacement and he was honest about everything as far as needing a full replacement down the road so I really trust Dr Collizza he's a great surgeon but yes as far as surgery I'm definitely gonna need a full knee replacement it's under workmans comp so I'm going back under the knife because I cant afford to let my case close to expensive to pay myself plus my last visit he saw the movement and said if I start having alot of pain that I would need it done

yea same here went back and he first told me he sees movement went back for a follow up and did an MRI he told me the plastic has come loose so now they are setting me up for a total replacement hope everything goes fine for you

yikes...Really am sorry to hear 9f your situation...and rather scared for mine

i might be in the same boat..but really hope not

Had a partial Unicompartmental knee replacement last August 2018..and a plastic knee cap..all due to sport

Specialists wanted to maintain my level of sport, hence the partial Unicompartmental operation..I am 60 years old

Have been doing really well..increased levels of exercise and longer distances of walking at increased pace...with the odd pain and discomfort at times..but all manageable with ice, pain killers and rest and elevation...Although the knee is not fully bending yet..hope that will change

Then last week..knee swelled up terribly...and very soft to touch..as if filled with liquid...with excruciating pain on the inside of the knee..probably called the medial collateral ligament..Knee is very painful and worse when i try to bend it..as it seems to be rather solid around the knee area..

i am icing it..resting it..elevating it and have at times returned to morphine to stop the pain...

Any thoughts and suggestions out there?

Because I had no cartlidge left between my patella & knee and from what I've been told, a shallow plate for the patella to slide on and cause no end of problems I finally had pfj (patella femoral joint) replacement surgery of the left knee 3 weeks ago and had noticed about 2 weeks ago how painful it is when I lie on either of my sides at night. The pressure against the outer & inner points of my knee makes it difficult to get comfortable. Further to that I'm experiencing a lot of pain on the lowest part of the femur on the inside (right side) of my knee at all times of the day & night causing me to be in constant pain. I'm doing all the exercises I'd been given at the hospital & now with an external physio adding a couple more. I'm still taking paracetamol tablets 4 times a day and am finding them so very necessary. Mostly at night, after only about 2hrs sleep, I'm waking in pain with still at least another 1 1/2 - 2 hrs to go before I can have my next dose then having to wait for that to kick in, then unfortunately, eventually finding myself awake for the next several hours. I'm due back at work in 3 weeks but as a disability support worker who at times has to be hands on and physically assisting clients to walk around I somehow doubt I'll be ready for my return. Apart from the surgeon being quite happy with the surgery I somehow can't seem to muster the same enthusiasm with the outcome...at this time. I did do my research prior to surgery and knew that it would be at least 3 - 6 months before things 'seem' ok and close to 12mths before it was more like normal but, if the pain would just stop, maybe, just maybe it would seem like it was all worthwhile, right now though, sorry, I'm just venting to those who understand having been and still there themselves...Cheers

    Hi everyone.

I had a left partial knee replacement 11 months ago and all was great up to about 6 months ago. I twisted wrong and since then I have trouble bearing weight. When I get out of bed or up from sitting position, I have to stand for about 5 seconds to steady my self because the leg feels really weak and very painful. When I start to walk, I have sharp pain below the knee. I feel like I am not able to straighten the leg while walking either. suggestions?

Of course I am sure it doesn't help matters that the right knee is bone to bone as well and suppose to be next but I don't know.

Sounds like you should see a Dr and get some xrays or scans done, maybe possible you could have moved something if it's only held in place by bone cement. The worse they can say is "Yes, you're going to need surgery (maybe just an arthroscope) to fix it." The best they can say is "No, but you have damaged a ligament/muscle/tendon and will need some physio to get it back to how it should be."

thanks for the comments. I have put a simple elastic knee band . I feel a lot stable with it. No pain and I am happy just took my e bike for 20k ride. Little discomfort at times. In addition I do sholder head stand on a yoga chair. This is helping me tremendiously.
