18 with mild/extreme sciatica

Hello, I am 18 years old, and I have sciatica radiating through my hip, down to my ankle. I am currently on 2 naproxin, 1 flexiril, and 4 tylenol 3s a day. I start chiropractic services tomorrow. The pain is still extreme down my leg, to the point where I can barely walk. The medication is not working very well.  Is there something I should ask my doctor to put me on?

I was a lifeguard, and went to the gym 5 days a week, but have had to take the past 2 weeks off due to the pain being unbearable. Did your pain just disapear?

Yeah. It just disappear but i had to take those tablets, they suited me allot. I play cricket so some times i get  pain in my right leg i take that and just dissolve!!

You must start regular swimming its helps allot your back and make the muscles strong!! DONT EVER GO FOR THE OPERATION . Especially at this young age, whats your name and where do you live?

    Hi Devanmac,

Best of luck with your chirpractic services. I am on naproxen and gabapentin, neither help with the pain. Even a large dose of whiskey fails to ease the pain. Others have suggested stronger pain killers like tramadol or valium. Today i get the result of my MRI scan so hopefully a plan of action comes out and after ten weeks of extreme pain some light at the end of the tunnel.

    Good luck, Graham

      Hiya

Tramdol althought good for pain can become additive as it contains morphine so should only be used sparingly

      Hi Dorsetgirl,

Tramadol is a centrally acting opiod analgesic, used to treat moderate to severe pain. I worked on the chemical synthesis of tramadol and the separation of it's isomers some years ago. It does not contain morphine. There are many side effects associated with tramadol, hence it should be taken with care.

Trust me I am a chemistbiggrin

No worries Frannie. That's exactly why we are on here to help each other out through this horrible, painful condition. I have never taken tramadol, though manufactured quite a lot of it. The side affects are well documented and always worth considering before taking. Still it does seem to help a lot of people.

      Best wishes Graham
