2 years of throat clearing, thick mucus and post nasal drip sensation (allergy/reflux/nerve?)

Hello,

Suffering for 2 years with sensation of thick mucus stuck at the back of the nose, which I'm often able to hock up out of my mouth (clear but very "snotty" and like thick glue when it's in a tissue).

Sometimes it gets in my throat and I often clear my throat all day long too. I guess this is post-nasal drip, but not watery or thin (like you apparently get from an allergy), it's very thick and feels awful like a lump or glob that won't move, until I hock it up, but within minutes it's back again...

Tried all reflux and allergy medications (double-dose PPIs, steroid sprays, allergy RAST tests, antihistamines, singulair, antihistamine sprays, nasal irrigation, gastrocopy, multiple nasal/throat endoscopes, sinus CT scans), and they can't identify the problem... All of my symptoms disappear completely, when I eat or lay down with my head to either side (which I find very odd! Equally, if I take pseudoephridrine (oral decongestant), my symptoms go too (but I know that's not a long term option).

Anyone ever dealt with anything similar or know what to suggest next?I've been thinking of self-treating with amitriptyline (10mg at night) and gabapentin (100mg 3x per day), to see if this is a hypersensitivity/nerve issue. I have absolutely no other symptoms and can't live much longer like this, it's completely ruined my life and things are just getting worse sad

Thanks for any help at all.

I am currently taking Vitamins liquid form, GABA 600 mg,  Sinus pill, and Fish Oil 1000 mg, and a prescription for High Blood Pressure.   As of today, I do not experience symptoms...and if I do its like once every month.   I also drink about 100 ounces of water (lemon) to give it flavor.   I noticed my symptoms made occur when I need to intake some water or when I need to visit the restroom.   I think I know when the mucus is trying to build up so I either drank water or visit the restroom and within minutes the symptoms are gone.  I been doing this for about 6 months now.   So far....so good.

I have had this crap for awhile now...5 years ago I was sprayed in the face with some rather toxic spider spray...long story short...blue lips stop breathing ambulance hospital..

Severely burned insides from sinus all the way to lungs...ever since then my respiratory system turned into an invitation to every virus/bacteria to come on in...and now I've got the ever present post nasal drip, as well as seemingly always a sinus infection....my stupid doctor is always insisting that it is caused by allergies to pollen etc...except all the allergy tests I've ever had state I am only allergic to penicillin and wasps... so to combat P.N.D I tried flixonase for 2 years constantly...now it just makes my nose bleed...i have tried all the 5 antibiotics that i can have but to no avail...i used to over chlorinate my pool and stick my head in, this would burn my sinuses, thin the gunk in my throat, and for 2 days I would have some relief from hacking....I have tried every home remedy or wives tale there is...atm I am using Euphorbium from the naturopath...when i can't breathe and can't clear my throat, I spray this up my nose and get some relief....I use a sinus rinse of which I am up to 7 rinses per day....the only real relief I get is when I lie on my back...my voice is hoarse at best or gone some days...and I've only just seen the ENT who says I need an xray, MRI scan and the camera....and very likely an operation....I've lost 2 jobs due to my hacking and gasping for breath...and not to mention my NO voice......my friends/ family and I joke about it because quite frankly if I don't laugh, I'll cry....sometimes I wonder why I even bother....but there must be some cure....Surely?

I have a constant urge to clear my throat and usually it is difficult to cough up anything.  When it does produce it is thick and basically "clearish', not yellow or green.  I seem to get a build up in the back of my throat and am constantly swallowing as well as clearing my throat.  I also have the feeling of a lump in my throat that concerns me and wonder if you have that also.  The lump feeling is always there and only seems to exhibit itself when moving my head around or when doing something like putting socks on.

    Any information will be appreciated.

Hi Roger....yes, I too have the lump in my throat...I am unable to eat a lot of things now.,as I can't swallow well..no more meat-too chunky..no more chicken-too stringy..no more dairy-aggravates it...leafy vegetables get stuck. So I've lost heaps of weight and can only eat softer foods....I hope you don't get as bad as this.
