2 years of throat clearing, thick mucus and post nasal drip sensation (allergy/reflux/nerve?)

Hello,

Suffering for 2 years with sensation of thick mucus stuck at the back of the nose, which I'm often able to hock up out of my mouth (clear but very "snotty" and like thick glue when it's in a tissue).

Sometimes it gets in my throat and I often clear my throat all day long too. I guess this is post-nasal drip, but not watery or thin (like you apparently get from an allergy), it's very thick and feels awful like a lump or glob that won't move, until I hock it up, but within minutes it's back again...

Tried all reflux and allergy medications (double-dose PPIs, steroid sprays, allergy RAST tests, antihistamines, singulair, antihistamine sprays, nasal irrigation, gastrocopy, multiple nasal/throat endoscopes, sinus CT scans), and they can't identify the problem... All of my symptoms disappear completely, when I eat or lay down with my head to either side (which I find very odd! Equally, if I take pseudoephridrine (oral decongestant), my symptoms go too (but I know that's not a long term option).

Anyone ever dealt with anything similar or know what to suggest next?I've been thinking of self-treating with amitriptyline (10mg at night) and gabapentin (100mg 3x per day), to see if this is a hypersensitivity/nerve issue. I have absolutely no other symptoms and can't live much longer like this, it's completely ruined my life and things are just getting worse sad

Thanks for any help at all.

    Hi all

I have being following a strict diet now for just over 3 weeks, (thinking it was Candia overgrowth due to a large amount of antibiotics taken over a 2 year period) anyway i can report that my snot has stopped 95% and my coughing and throat clearing is almost gone as well. I am taking no other medication apart from oil of Oregano, I really hope I am on the rite path and wanted to share where I am at in the hope that it helps someone else.

As suggested here, I stopped eating yeast and bread and wheat, and everything so far is sooooo much better. I, like you, at this moment, can say it is 95 percent better.

      Hi Nita and John

Would you be able to share a sample menu of what you eat? Breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks?

And what dose for the oregano oil?

      That would be hugely helpful!

      Thank you!

      Hi May77

If you google Candida elimination diet you will get some ideas, but for the first week you need to cut out all dairy, sugar, carbs, fruit, meats and basically just eat cooked veggies, its pretty hard core but worth it.  The oil of oregano i take 3 times a day and for the first week you will feel really crappy, this is due to the candida (overgrowth or yeast in your body dying off. I am 3 weeks in now and feeling really good, still taking the oragano oil and have reintroduced to my diet fish / lean meats and some dairy, but as yet no breads or pasta. Hope this helps you John

      Hi Nita

Curious to know how quickly you saw results. I am on day 4 of a gluten-free, sugar-free diet (except a few strawberries yesterday).

Also taking oil of oregano 3x per day, echinacea, goldenseal and l-glutamine, as well as probiotics at night.

      Thank you!

Thanks John! I don’t seem to have any die-off symptoms (just had brain fog the first day) so wondering if it is working...

can you please explain your diet? i remember about two years ago for some unknown reason it went away for about a month. I should have kept a food diary. i know spicy foods make the condition worst.

I've been prescribed morphine sulfate. My mucus and cough has gone. I'm supposed to take twice a day but I take 5mg. So far so good. My doctor sent me to the cough clinic at my local hospital. I am in the UK so of course it's free. Good luck to everyone.

Thank you for your concern. I am going to Gaviscon I really didn't want to but it is my 4th lot of meds I've tried. I have had this on and off since 2012. Long time. Thank you again.
