Wow! Where has the time gone! Just a quick shout out to my old hippie friends & some words of encouragement for the newbies/soon to be hippies. Take each day as it comes, be kind & gentle to yourself, positive thinking, don't forget your exercises & don't get too hung up on sleeping! Sleep when you want, you don't have to wait until it gets dark! X

Totally agree with you on this! My 1st hipp will be 11 years old on the 13th june and 2nd one will be 6 months on 27th june. Im nearly 48 on 14th june! Its all about looking after yourself before and after the op and not planning big achievements as soon as you are up and about!
Your body has gone through something major and needs to be treated with care and attention!
So as you said fern, good luck to all the newbies and the soon to be's!
Slowly slowly!

Hi before I had my 1st one done almost 11 years ago, walking and standing became miserable. I had to almost contort myself when painting my toenails! Then while I was off recovering from op, the Tour de France came to my town. We were standing around for ages! I had NO discomfort at all. I went and had a coffe afterwards. I then thought that sitting would be uncomfortable but no, it was fine. I then went to use the a public toilet, I then panicked as I didn't have raised toilet seat! I then thought "dont panic as the fire brigade are outside and if needed would have to ring them!!" But luckily all was good. With 2nd hip nearly 6 months ago (end of June), I pushed myself a little bit more but remained sensible! No hip pain but general back pain but I think its through wear and tear mostly.

To all new hippies I would say take all your pain meds initially, stay ahead of the pain. Do your exercises, rest when you need to. And I agree, try not to worry too much about the not sleeping.....It does get better!
I wish you well, Judith

Hi Judith,
I've just replied to Fernlady and nice to see your name too.
recently we had Rocketman and Renee checking in too!
I got so much from this forum, and now try a little 'payback' by checking in once in a while.
Peace and love and new dawns

Great to hear !!
I am 11 weeks post op and even 2 weeks ago i was thinking " why did i do it " I was feeling so useless and in pain but i seem to have suddenly turned a corner. I am still experiencing aches and pains but every day there's improvement .There is now a light at the end of the tunnel !
I shopped all day yesterday minus any aids and although i felt tired in the evening it was great to feel ' normal ' again .
Feeling really positive now after weeks of doubt and pain .

True !!!
I am going on holiday in 2 weeks so i think that has been an incentive to push myself , i didn't fancy walking around Mykonos on a stick , although i am taking a fold up cane with me .... just in case !
Good luck with your continued recovery !

Hey Fernlady,
Long time no see - and yes 2.4 years pain free me too!
Sorry some folk are not healing as well as us, but overall wishing everyone well on their journeys.
It's funny people on this site struggle to get back to life often with pain, avoid sport and necessary exercise, and on another site for active hippies they are mostly all recovering well, a bit bonkers and say run a marathon 9 months post THR/ do horse riding etc.
For me, and probably most of us, tis somewhere in the middle - 5K runs and gym and Dartmoor walking for sure, and keeping healthy at 74yrs old. And remembering Renee's advice take plenty of rest too. And yes, afternoon sleeps often good too -as needed.
Take care, live and love well everyone: but no bungi jumping.
