It is a near miracle...I can get out of bed without a lot of pain and I actually was able to put my clothes on without help.  My pain level is bearable.....still in shoulders and right hand but I can stand up straight.  Actually got in and out of car.......20mg ( 2 dosages of 10mg)  life appears to have some future...why oh why could I not have had them months ago....the haemotologist would still say no but the doctor in the end just prescribed them saying I could come off in a few days if it didnt work....THANKYOU to Eileen I downloaded the paperwork and presented it to the surgery.  Rheumy said yes probably but even seeing him privately would have had to wait another three weeks......You have got to laugh...I was walking like the missing link a few days ago and fell down a small hole!!bruised and strained my foot ....more sympathy for bruises that show....THANKYOU EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    Good.

By the way, the recommended way to take pred in PMR is all as one dose in the morning. That works well for the majority of people although some find splitting the dose works better. However a single dose is felt to work better overall and result in fewer side effects because your body isn't subject to high levels of pred for as long each day. But as we keep saying - everyone is different.

I take it you aren't going to see the haematologist again?

at the moment it is split into two doses...on the packet instructions....what time would the best times be to take it

Are those printed instructions on the packet directed at anyone taking the pred for whatever reason?  Or is it specifically for your prescription?  If it's a general instruction, what we are told is to take all of our pred early in the morning, but we must have it with food to avoid gastric problems - it's hard on the stomach lining.  Many people seem to have a helping of yoghurt with their pred.  I eat my breakfast and have it then, or in the middle of breakfast.

The recommended time generally is about 8am with breakfast. Realistically, many people find it is better to take it earlier - the sooner you take it the sooner it can get to work and the less inflammation has been created to be dealt with.

      In this post:

you will find a link to the 2015 Recommendations for the management of PMR where, in Recommendation 6, they say they recommend using "a single rather than divided doses of oral steroids" except in specific cases of night pain when reducing.

The use of prednisolone/prednisone is predicated on it having a usual duration of effect that is about 24 hours - it means a single daily dose is possible and improves patient compliance.

      Hi Eileen

I am not sure if others find this but it is interesting that now after a few months on pred - my 'body' wakes me up( regardless of the time I go to sleep) at almost exactly the same time and seems to 'tell' me it's exactly time to take my dose. I know people develop regular 'body clocks' anyway - but this is something I have never been particuarly 'good' at - so this feels rather unusual to me and I actually get a bit 'jittery' - and don't feel quite right until at least an hour or two after I take it. This experience has made me realise how 'dependent' I now am on Pred for 'normal' (although I know this isn't really 'normal' of course) functioning - it is also amplified as I have begun to taper down from high levels.

That is interesting. Doesn't happen to me as I take my pred at 10pm - even I am not asleep before that!

I always get a kick out of reading people's comments after they take their first doses of Prednisone after having suffered for so long. They're always so grateful and so relieved from the pain. And as far as walking I always described my walk as a penguin walk. But I'm sure sorry to hear that you fell and hurt yourself that always sucks and is always kind of scary be to fall
