2nd hip replacement

Hi all, just wanting anyone to give me any info at all I will be having my hip replacement replaced in 2 to 3 months time. It's lasted 13 years the plastic liner has worn away, after many tests over last few months the surgeon says it definitely need replacing. Question as I keep telling him I am not in pain, the pain I had before met first hip replacement was horrendous, I also had a limp. After the op I was pain free and no limp. This time it's different, yes it can ache and the odd slight bit of pain. Just wondering if I should hang on a bit as I am only 49. Has anyone had experience of this? Any comments will be helpful, thanks Tracy here in Morecambe.

Hi Tracy, I've just had mine done with a bone graft to build a new socket. I'm 45 and been told the average life for a hip at my age is 15 years. Due to my op being a bit more complicated the average is 10 years. It all depends on how much damage will be caused long term if you leave it.

      Hi Vicki,

that really helps its hard sometimes to understand the language they use !!!! But getting my head around it sooner is better - the operation should take place in the next 2 - 3 months - Funny how we all get told different re how long the new hips last!!!! Thanks alot, your comment really does help.

      Hi Donni,

3 in 6 years!!!! Right ok, I will shut up now!!!!!!! Why on earth have you had 3? Your poor thing - I do feel for you - its the recovery thats the hardest - I do rememeber how hard it was how tired I was, how sick I was, how frustrating it all was I could go on and on - but in the end its so worth it - I have had 13 years of pain free life - and done everthing I have wanted to do its never stopped me. So sorry to hear your story, good luck
