2nd opinion

Well, today i went to get a 2nd opinion from another doctor in the practice after completely losing faith in the doctor i've attended for the past 2yrs. I told her of my fatigue, pain and stiffness and how the other doctor didn't actually acknowledge that PMR may be at least partly to blame. I told her about my headache that i've had for 6wks and again not acknowledged by the other doctor, i told her i was worried about GCA...i told her how no matter what i said to the other doctor he put it down to my mental...i'd said i felt self aware to which he replied "you can't say you're self aware...how can you say that...no one knows if they're self aware" which had really upset me at the time as i had a rubbish couple of years (personally) and was pro active in helping myself to get better...i'd been in counselling, i'd got myself a new job, i had looked after me....ANYWAY...the new doctor said "ok we'll get an ESR rate done to see if your PMR could be causing any of these symptoms" i asked about my headaches then she went on to tell me about her gas central heating breaking down but how the engineer managed to fix it but couldn't find a reason for the problem in the first place...!!! as in..i have a headache/pain/stiffness but there may be no cause for it. It really concerns me that no one is interested in checking out my head...other than psychologically...God give me strength...my ESR rate was 13 in November

I think we all wish there was a definitive diagnosis of PMR, but there isn't.  Just stiffness won't do it.  Headaches are not usually part of it unless you have GCA.  Location of the pain helps with diagnosis and you didn't tell us that. It may well be something other than PMR.  Several other diseases can mimic PMR.  (That's all I know however).

At the moment all my own doctors disagree with one another!!

I still remember years ago I was running a low grade fever for several months and feeling awful.  I thought maybe strep had gone around the family and come back to me a 2nd time,  but initially tests did not show that.  Finally a nurse asked me "You've been here a lot lately. Have you been under a lot of stress lately".  I answered "Yes, because you haven 't been able to figure out what is wrong with me!"  I was furious!  A week later results showed that I did indeed have strep again.

You cannot compare gas workings with a human being . Gosh what ignorants you have suffered !  Pain when Drs don't listen and you find yourself repeting all your symptoms . So sorry to hear this . Hope someone listen soon .

I have been wondering how you are, Issy, as I thought you had so much to cope with. It sounds like you are managing your stress but your PMR is not managing the stress you are putting it under. I could not do what you are doing without being exhausted and in pain. I have overstretched myself this week and there is no solution but to keep going. I am exhausted and in pain but trying to rest and then do something else. The rest in between is helping but I am managing to do less before resting. Yes. It's biting me this week  but, unfortunately, circumstances dictate that I have to keep going but not willingly as I do not want to be feeling like this. GPs come in all varieties and we get lucky with some but others have no idea how it feels to be at their mercy and can be quite arrogant or dismissive. I hope you find a GP who will listen. They are a rare breed and, alas, becoming rarer. Please try to think of yourself and take on less which should, hopefully, help with the pain and exhaustion. Do you have a practice nurse who may be more helpful than the GPs?

Oh dear, definitely time for a new practice/set of doctors.  That is not acceptable at all!  I hope you can find a doctor who truly listens and helps soon.
