I am 5 months out now and just ditched my cane last week. I had posterior approach. I only take it if I'm going shopping due to my limp. I am not ready for a long walk yet. 5 weeks out I had bursitis in operated hip and was put on light activity for 1 week with no PT. As soon as I returned to PT bursitis in the op hip again flared up and was told to rest for 3 weeks. So, I am pretty far behind the norm. Also I still have pain in my groin that is better but not completely. I was pretty acitve prior to surgery. Most of my bad pain came from stooping or sitting and getting up and it was all in the groin. On occasions I would have pain when walking but not often. So my muscles were in good shape going into this. I can't say that I am satisfied with my new hip yet as I really felt I would be far more able to walk without pain and stiffness at this point. My limo is significant still and hoping that will resolve, as well. It's not really possible to ask my surgeon questions as he doesn't answer them with any substance. Just got an appt with new surgeon to follow me as I would like a little more info with my issues. Everyone is different I'm told so I'm guessing by the first anniversary date of my op things will be a lot better.

I had posterior also. Left hip I had bad arthritis I'm 52 and at times I feel very old! I'm sorry to hear about your set backs. I returned to work at 7 weeks. I take iburophen a lot I feel like it might help with any swelling I may still have. I also ice my hip s few times a week. Just want to feel normal again!!!!

      Hi Free Spirit,

your response caught my eye .. please don't think your healing is behind the norm -- there really is no norm here  - I feel the same way as you do at times - that I should be better now, be able to walk longer, faster, getting up without uttering a small groan or wobbling for a couple of minutes ...

surgeons are doers, not so much talkers - I sometimes wish "they" would pay more attention to what I am telling them - even my GP seems to not care unless I have a real problem ...

      so I come here ...

      you are doing great darling

      big warm hug

Hello Jen! I am 5mths post op right hip I still have groin pain when doing my exercises I mentioned this to the consultant after my last review, he said considering how much pain I was before the op+walking a different way to alleviate the pain he wasn't surprised or worried it could take a while to get back to "normal". I now have pain in my left hip, which will have to be replaced very soon so I,m hoping this doesn,t delay the recovery of my first hip,I am still glad I had my hip done (I have also had both knees replaced 9yrs ago and still get the odd "twinge,s "with them) it's still far better than the awful bone on bone pain.

Jen I am 3 months past surgery and I'm not feeling tightness. Do I do my stretches daily -yes! Do I like to exercise - NO! I have heard from I few people who did not follow protocol - they regret it. Sit on a chair, lift legs, rotate ankles. Do some squats. Keep moving. I notice when I sit to long Its hard to get up. Good luck!
