Dont panic you are only at 3 weeks. Your lower back pain will be because your gait is off to accomodate you new knee. Your foot may be swollen as a result of your leg being straightened during your TKR. My first TKR my foot was swollen and bruised from straightening my leg. Keep icing and elevating your leg above your heart and do your best with your exercises. its important to keep exercising. A TKR is a year long journey and it does get better and easier.

You are 3 weeks into a typically 52 week recovery. The first 12 weeks are usually the worst because there's a lot of swelling and pain. Take your meds ON SCHEDULE, ice and elevate. Do your PT plus extra work at home...

    ROM at Home

I started at -14 / +84; took me 12 weeks to get to -1 / +123. Advances, setbacks and plateaus are all very common. This is NOT a linear recovery!!! Once you are doing better, you start...

    Muscle Rebuild

This is absolutely mandatory. You need to take the load off the knee and put it back on the surrounding muscles where it belongs. Failure to do so will leave you in constant pain. There will also likely be pain in other parts of your body...

    Other Pain After a TKR

All so very common. I got a case of sciatica at 5 weeks that my chiropractor helped me get rid of. This is a long, slow recovery. You can even see the remnants of the swelling at one year as well as some residual stiffness and noises. Everything is pretty much over by 18 months for the vast majority of people, Time, work and patience are your tools. Get all expectations and timetables out of your head...everyone is different.

im 5 weeks in and got my bend 115 and 10 degrees off straight , my knee still swells especially after exercise , i never thought it would be like this , pain and the amount of time it will take to mend , i thought 6 weeks and i would be walking around normally and back at work , im self employed joiner so i need to work ive already had too much time off , keep icing your knee and do exercices ,and try to stay positive because ive never been down like this , wouldnt think a operation could make you feel so vunrable but people keep telling me it will be worth it in the long run , trouble is now other knee is playing up

im 6 and half weeks now got 120 bend cant straighten it , nearly, tried walking on it with no sticks but still weak got physio tommorow see if i can ride my bike , it is a long job and like you my other knee is same so its tough when my left knee is painful and getting worse because im relying on that more , i need to work that is something people dont get , im 50 and git no family to turn too got help and everyone telling me dont rush back , who is going to pay my bills so it just gets me so down , ive always been a positive person but the last 2 years with my knees its been hard , i always walked the dogs , go away for weekends , holidays do stuff for my daughters but when you struggle to walk for ten minutes , and ive even cut short holidays because i cant do what i could 5 years ago , and i hate to think it but slight recentment creeps in from others , ive been with misses 27 years and got 2 daughters and over the last 3 years things have changed cant do what i did and that makes me feel crap , cant earn what i did so everything falls on all around and im sick of seeing what everyone is doing , fitst time ever we have no holidays or anything in place because of my knees and money , its mad all because of knees my life has being turned upside down , i used to play snooker , and captain of our bowling team but now i dont even go out because ive lost interest in mist things but like everyone keeps telling me over and over again things will get better cheers

John ....Ive read your comments twice and can feel your stress. You are young at 50 to have a TKR.I understand that its hard when you are in the moment and cant see the finish line especially as you are the family bread winner. Can you get any disability claim while you are off? Your knee will get better.
