3 weeks post gallbladder removal

Hi, I had my gallbladder removed 3 weeks ago via keyhole surgery, as soon as i returned to ward i was very drowsy, couldn't stay awake for longer than 5 mins, BP was low, was very cold, had been sick 3 times was still discharged same day, ended up back in a&e next day as could only stay awake long enough to be sick, sorry folks but each time I was sick it was getting darker in green colour, almost khaki green, filling 3-4 kidney bowls at a time, given fluid transferred to trauma hospital as skin was turning yellow, kidney and liver function dropping, was given more fluids and and anti sickness and when could hold fluids down surgeons explanation was he doesnt know if I was taken out of anesthetic properly or I reacted to it, surgeon felt my stomach said it was fine and was discharged again, all within 48hrs, as each day goes on I feel weaker and fatigued, bp still seems low as constantly getting lightheaded whether im sitting or standing, passing urine 1-2 times a day, urine very dark and not a lot, drinking plenty of water, have constant nausea and when I can eat I have diarrhoea about 10 mins after finishing, have strange taste in my mouth, like sugary metallic taste and no matter what I do I cant get it away, im always cold to extent hands and feet are turning purple, having sweats, be soaking but body still very cold, to touch, whites of eyes are a yellow colour, have constant crushing pain in right ribs just below my breast, constant dull pain where gallbladder was, cant walk to far as pressure from pain in ribs restricts my breathing, cant sit for long as get very uncomfortable, cant lie down for long, cant stand for long, have barely slept since surgery, dont see gp for another 2 weeks as only appointment available and dont want to go to a&e as they will probaly just do the same thing and send me home none of the wiser surely this isn't normal, I feel 100 times worse from surgery than I ever did before it, is this normal after gallbladder removal, was told I could return to work in 2 weeks, only medication I'm taking is nexam and paracetamol, is this something you arent told about, is this side effects of gallbladder removal

sorry so long, but I'm getting very down, agitated and my anxiety disorder is through the roof with the pain in

Sorry to hear this, you sound like you had a bad time in there, i was sent home next day, no tablets and no follow up, im two years now, still not right, but a dam site better than the pain i was in,;;, getting to see a doctor now is getting impossible,we are all finding out, lots water, you must rest, you definately need more than two weeks off, insist on seeing some one, even for a ultra sound scan,to see if can find some thing not right, the body has been traumatised, surgical instruments inside us,prodding and probing, you may be badly bruised inside, this will take time to recover, you must take it easy , let us know how you get on,im sure others will be able to reply to you over this, keep strong,

hello, i had similar reaction- sick after coming round from op- very sore especially around belly button wound from surgery- BP V LOW and was kept in as surgery was in afternoon and i couldn't keep any liquids down. Vomit almost black and was told it was blood from operation in stomach. went to Gp after 1 week as like you i felt very weak and worried and also cold- checked out and was told to take it easy . got GP to sign me off for 3rd week and by 4 months post surgery started to feel improved although i do have to watch what i eat and still take RANITIDINE to line stomach. Please go back if you are worried and insist they check everything- i wish you all the best x

    hi Evelyn

your symptoms are pointing to liver problems . dark urine yellow whites of eyes etc .. as the gallbladder is attached below the liver your liver can become affected. if there is a stone left in the bileduct the obstruction can cause jaundice dueto liver being backed up with bile .. bile is produced in the liver .. you need to get your liver checked .. asap.

i didnt have this after removal but 5 years on i have liver disease and apon research realise the gallbladder and liver are closely linked and a poor gallbladder does do damage to our livers .. positively our livers do repair and recover but you need to be checked out .. hope that helps .. sally

being drowsy after anaesthetic may just be reaction to the anaethetic

thank you for replying, was thinking that it was my liver myself, just so drained.

if you havent improved you should go to A &E .. they will check you over especially your liver .

and scan you to check there are no gallstones left in your bile duct. it is not normal to be suffering as you are . the longer you leave it the worse it gets .. and if they check u out and allis clear you can relax ... but you have worrying symptoms ..let us all know what happens xx

sorry to hear all this. About 3 weeks after my op i was in agony. I went to doctors doubled up in pain and i couldn't get an appointment. After returning home i could hardly breathe so called an ambulance. Doctor in A&E was brilliant. After loads of tests he explained that sometimes a stone gets left behind. After ultra sound the nurse said lots of people suffer after gallbladder removal. I certainly can't eat what i want but everyone reacts differently. If I were you and you get any worse go to A&E. Do hope you feel better soon.

hi i had my gallbladder removed 4 weeks ago and last night was in absolute agony pain was exactly the same as a gallbladder attack. it lasted about 4 hours.

Ive looked online and it could be a gallstone in the bile duct. Im so scared just dont know what to do. I was feeling great post surgery until this happened

hope u feel better soon, from what I have read a lot of the gastroenterologist can be very dismissive of this, I've had relief from surgery been done x

I know exactly how you feel. It is scary. I was fine for a few weeks and then absolute agony. I think it was a stone left behind although the surgeon said this can't happen although the doctor at A&E said it was quite common. It happened again about a week later but had some strong painkillers by then. Since then I have been very careful to try and avoid anything fatty and introduce anything like cheese very gradually. I can't eat meat anymore only chicken. So far I've been ok. My only advice is just be careful when eating as it takes time for your body to adjust without a gallbladder. 4 weeks is only a short time. Hope you feel better soon.
