36 hours to go

Only 36 hours to go now till LTKR and think I am about ready after months of waiting and setbacks.

The house is ready for when I come home. My bag for hospital is packed. I've had my first 'Hibiscrub' shower (another tomorrow night and again Tuesday morning before I set off for hospital).

I have been doing all my pre op exercises

I've had a phone call from hospital telling me to be there for 7.30 am on Tuesday morning so have to fast from Monday night even though I am not scheduled for surgery till just after lunchtime. They have asked me all the usual questions about present health, cuts, grazes etc. Which all seem to be ok although I have been dreading catching something or injuring myself whilst trying to do the last few jobs that I can manage in garden etc.

My wife and I went away for day yesterday and had a nice day out with some excellent food and refreshments as I don't know when we will be able to do it again.

So that's it!  Bring it on!! Feeling positive.

I will post again as things progress depending on how much they let me use my iPad in hospital, and how well I feel.

    Good luck!!!!  Just remember:

?- Give up all your expectations and time schedules.  They will only screw up your head.

    - Post-Op Depression is a Jedi Mind Trick...totally normal

    - The first few weeks are usually painful.  Stay on your med schedule!!!

    - Eat healthy and hydrate a LOT!!!

    - Work on your ROM from day one; expect swelling; ice and elevate

?- After the ROM, you have to do the muscle rebuild for your atrophied quads, glutes and core

?- Measure your progress month by month not day by day

?In the end it comes down to three things: time, work and patience.  Give the knee time to heal...it's different for everyone.  Do the ROM work and then the exercise plan to rebuild your dead muscles to take the pressure off the knee...else there's more pain.  Finally, have patience.  This usually takes a full year to get past and it gets better very gradually.  There are no magic pills or silver bullets.  Overdo it and the knee will swell.  Slow and easy.  You can do this just like the rest of us.  I'm 2+ years post-op.  Believe the words of Steve Miller in the song Jet Airliner: "Ya gotta go through hell before you get to heaven."  Walk the path...and post this on your fridge...

I wish you the best. The wait from when you get there till when you get called in always seems to go on forever. You will probably have 4 to 6 nurses come in and ask you numerous question they are going to ask you to mark your knee pretty much all basic stuff once it gets close you will meet the anesthesiologist and they will give you something to relax your Dr. will come in give you a pep talk shortly there after bedtime I think once they decide to put you to sleep it takes maybe 10 seconds. Once you wake do not be afraid to ask for pain meds its going to hurt. I am sure you will be fine just think next time you write you will have your new knee.

Knee, hip and two spine fusions.  Four and a half pounds of metal.  I could be part of the wing in an emergency...

We could start our own TV show if you remember " The six Million Dollar Man " we would have to come up with a new name and a tune everytime we spring into action like what was played when the main character went into action.

Just being goofy since my knee has been cut open so many times I asked my last surgeon if he should put in a Zipper it would make things a lot easier when there is a problem just unzip the knee fix the problem zip it back up done.

Not sure if we're worth that kind of money but one thing is for sure...

All of our ops mean that these surgeons can afford the upkeep of their condos in Acapulco...

Good luck Martin!! I am 10 weeks post op and walked on a pebbly beach for 2 hours today. I was thrilled! I have had what I call my “ mouldy” days but it’s usually when I have done to much the day before.. now Martin.. all I say is listen to your body and you will be fine don’t push too much. I have just started on a bike in the gym and lengths in the pool.. I’m not rushing back to work.. I had a hip replacement 2 years ago and went back to early and was in a lot of pain not this time will I put myself through that

take care and you will be fine oh! And do your exercises regularly!!

How long will you be in hospital? For me it was one night.
