Meant to add I'm new to these forums and I'm sorry that my comments are so long. If the moderators think that my comments would be better as a new discussion I totally understand.

I had 15 mg Mirtazapine prescribed as a pain-killer (in addition to anti-infammatories and ludocaine patches) to be taken at night to help with agonising PHN in the morning.  It totally 'knocked me out' leaving me drugged-up dizzy and totally unable to function.  I just had to sleep for about three hours.  Halving the dose was no better.  I had to stop taking it and try to cope without it.  I would suggest renewing your efforts to make your GP understand that this one is not for you, and get him to try a different anti-convulsant - brands do differ.
