4 Months post RTHR

Finally feel as if i'm getting my life back after the most miserable 4 months from Nov.(surgery 2nd Nov)....Didnt believe people when they said it would get better ...but it has !!! Groin pain gone, good range of movement and more energy ,actually really delighted i got it done (cant believe i'm typing that )..for me the best thing ive done is go swimming 2-3 times a week ..my surgeon said ok for breast stroke but not to exert the leg . I'm now back teaching my beloved pilates and a tiny bit of yoga ...I feel like me again and my hip feels so strong ..So for all those struggling please go at your own pace ,rest when you need to ,do your stretches ..it is a slow process .To think of that horrible, debilitating groin pain which i ignored for sooo long ..its gone and i cant quite believe it .If you need a thr then get it done ..honestly ..gx

    Hi Gail,

I'm so happy to hear that you are doing very wellsmile  It's always nice to hear good news.  I too had a good recovery.  At the time the progress seemed slow, but I'm also glad I had it done.

Hope I get to that stage Gail .. am 5 months in still in pain and groin pain . Surgeon sent me back to

Physio who I saw today and he said you will probably have groin pain for life .. very depressing .

      Hazel,

Don't listen to that nonsense.  Groin pain is quite common after a FHR.  I had it for a little while until I was done with PT.  They taught me how to strengthen all the muscles in the thigh, hip, buttocks and lower back.  Once everything was aligned properly I no longer hurt.  Do you have a choice of physio therapists?  I'd get another one who has more experience.  Best of luck to you and keep us posted.

      Hi Hazel.

I have found the physio's to be pretty hopeless. I'm presently into week 2 of a 4 week stay in Australia. Like you I was really sick of the groin pain. However here unlike at home I have been doing a lot of walking. Albeit at a very slow pace as my friend cannot walk quickly due to COPD.

Here I walk at least a couple to more hours a day. Up and down town centre and in and out of shops. Someone on this forum said walking was best thing. My hip is so much better as is groin pain. Actually virtually gone.

Still a bit uncomfortable going from sitting to standing but not half as bad as it used to be. Hopefully meeting up with our lovely Madla on Thursday so looking forward to that. She is awaiting 2nd THR so I feel fortunate.

Hopefully you will get better as hip strengthens. I was going to see private physio if mine didn't improve. Sandra xxxx

I hope your pain lessens Hazel ,I really felt the difference after being in the pool ,just doing gentle stuff like knee lifts ...leg lifts to the side ( not too far) and up and down legs ...I can certainly feel it in my bum ,but it's vital to use your gluteus muscles because they get messed about something terrible through the surgery ..gx

Thanks all. Hopefully after seeing the surgeon...for the first time on the 13th he will be able to give me some ides of time scale. It at least cuts down the uncertainty factor!

      Cheers Richard
