5 weeks post op

Hi all,
Well today I am walking unaided in and around the house. Went to local shopping center today but decided to use one crutch, basically so people kept their distance lol. Walked full length of center and in, around and out of shops. Came home and had a little sit in drivers seat to practice pressing the accelerator and brake (I've had Right THR) as its not an automatic car. I found this surprisingly OK, so hoping when I see the consultant a week tomorrow he will lift restrictions and let me drive. After that I cooked tea and am now sat in my electric recliner with legs elevated.
Doesn't seem like a lot, but to me its an achievement.
To anyone who isn't at the 5 weeks stage yet, I can assure you it gets better and easier.
Will let you all know what my Consultant says next week.
Regards to all and hope all those in the UK have a good bank holiday weekend (let's hope the sun shines).

Well done on getting as far as you have. I too am at 5 weeks and really struggling.
But I am so happy you are making great progress.
Just becareful even if your consultant lifts your restrictions on driving you may still be on medication that may restrict you also. So just becareful of that and make sure it is totally out of your system before doing any driving.

Sorry to hear you are struggling.
As I have a tummy problem I can't take strong painkillers, so was only taking paracetamol for a couple of weeks and only had the odd one since, so no problems there.
Hope you improve soon.
Take care

I am only struggling because I need my right side doing as well and both my knee and my hip have become extreemly bad since having to compensate for the left side being done. I have to wait till september till my consultant will do my right side. I am hoping he will get me into hydrotherapy before much longer. I won't see him again now till June the 8th which is 8 weeks post op so will have to see when he says then.

You did well with pain killers too - I'm still taking paracetamol and separate codeine 3 times a day. Still that's one dose less than last week!

I can't see myself putting the special stockings on without help or doing the injections into my stomach, But what are husbands for? Mine has been brilliant, even puts up with my moaning and ferries me to coffee mornings and book group meetings - not areas he has any interest in.
