5 weeks post op

Hi all,

Well today I am walking unaided in and around the house.  Went to local shopping center today but decided to use one crutch, basically so people kept their distance lol.  Walked full length of center and in, around and out of shops.  Came home and had a little sit in drivers seat to practice pressing the accelerator and brake (I've had Right THR) as its not an automatic car.  I found this surprisingly OK, so hoping when I see the consultant a week tomorrow he will lift restrictions and let me drive.  After that I cooked tea and am now sat in my electric recliner with legs elevated.

Doesn't seem like a lot, but to me its an achievement.

To anyone who isn't at the 5 weeks stage yet, I can assure you it gets better and easier.

Will let you all know what my Consultant says next week.

Regards to all and hope all those in the UK have a good bank holiday weekend (let's hope the sun shines).

Good morning Nadine .... what???? it IS a LOT you achieved - we know that - in the eyes of others, non-hippies, it might not seem a lot, but what do they know ???

these are victories to be shared here ....

Word of caution from my own experience:  it is very easy to do too much on a day you feel good - Yesterday I felt great, so I took a longer walk, drove 45 minutes  to an outlet store, walked around (by that time I was in pain) -

I was happy to be home again and felt exhausted ... needless to say that today I can feel the hardware and my back is in spasms .... just saying !!!

    take care !    big hug

I would say you are right on target. Most people once they hit 4 weeks experience a rapid improvement/recovery. (Your mileage may vary)

Week 5 was my turnaround week to Nadine. I felt better, my leg felt stronger, I was finally about to walk without the cane ( I would carry it with me just it case I needed it ) and going forward each week I seemed to really improve. Now don't get me wrong sometimes the day after I would be sore and at times over did things because I felt so good but no one ever said working hard on our recoveries would be easy. Well done Nadine your doing great.

Thanks Susan, well done to you too, seems things are on the up for both of us (although if you see what I posted yesterday I did overdo things on Saturday and really suffered yesterday).

      Onwards and upwards susan xxx
