5 weeks post sinus surgery and pain exactly the same

Hi there, I have suffered from debilitating sinus pain for the past 15 years. I'm unable to lye on the left had side of my face as the pressure is immense. When it's really bad i feel like someone is popping bubble wrap in my sinuses and when i blow my nose the burning sensation in my eyeball is horrendous. I know i'm probably not explaining this very well, but I don't know how else to describe it.

I had sinus surgery 5 weeks ago, to open up the drainage in my sinuses and the hope was to let the mucus drain away better, and relieve the pressure.

5 weeks on and the pain is just as bad (if not worse) and it's basically ruining my life. I have a 4 year old and i'm in so much pain all the time I don't have the energy to do things with her that I would love to do.

I've tried steroid spray's, strong antibiotics, steam, antihistemines, sinus rinses. Nothing works.

My surgeon say's if this doesnt work he will go down the route of treating me for migraines.

Sorry I know that was a ramble, i'm just wondering if anyone else can relate to the pain, and if ANYTHING has worked for them

Thanks x

Rachel, I use a small squirtof no tears baby shampoo, a tiny pinch of sea salt, 6 drops of gapefruit extract, boiled water in a nettie port. It helps a lot. I warm the water. I have chronic sinustisis. It's effect my life, and my spelling. smile Dena

Hello Rachel, I'm so sorry to hear your story, I have the same symptoms as you, I am 68 and started all these symptoms aged 25, I use menthol crystals, and I have just tried Prevalin allergy plus. It has helped with the pain and pressure. I do hop this will be of some help. Jo.

      Hi there.

Really appreciate your reply. I haven't tried Prevalin. I will give it a go.

It's horrible to hear you've been suffering this long. It's a terrible pain

It's also good to hear that someone else had the same symptoms. Sometimes I think I'm going mad. And unless you suffer from it. You just can't know how bad the pain is.

      Thanks again for the advice

Hi Rachel, I thought I was going mad too when I first had all these symptoms, my doctor told me that I could try electric shock treatment!!!! I told him it was physical not mental, the next doctor I went to see gave such strong drugs for a mental disorder that it could have caused mental illness, I finally found a doctor who listened to me and gave me menthol crystals, that saved me, it helped with everything even the dizziness, but I have had scans x-Ray's on my last visit to a specialist I was told my sinuses and nose was very healthy!!!! I suffer with Migraine also, I got in touch with a Migraine hospital online, he told me that we have a nerve running from the middle of both eyebrows into the nose and when these nerves get inflamed by sinus problems it can cause Migraine. I found this very interesting. Take care Rachel and good luck. Jo x

Thanks Jo, It's good to hear the menthol crystals help you. I tried them years ago and i think i gave up on them. But i will definately go back and give them another try. I was also put on anti depressants. I was on the for 3 years and i knew i didn't need them. Coming off them was a challenge. Thanks again for the advice. Take care x

Hi, yes it did answer a lot of questions for me, like getting a migraine at the start of a sinus attack, they can operate to stop this, not sure about it yet, need more info. Good luck, Jo.

haha thanks, it's just good to talk to someone that totally understands the pain. I'm pretty sure my family are sick listening to me.

I tried to stay away from the surgery but in the end i would have tried anything. They tell you it only has a 50-50 chance of working and just need to hope for the best. I've also ordered evening primrose oil, so if that works i'll let you know. And the crackling. Dear god it's awful. Thanks again for the advice x

Just watch out when using the neti-pot if u blow to hard trying to get the mucus out you can send fluid to your ears which you do not want. So after flishing your nose out with the neti pot let most of the water come out on its own then blow lightly
