6 week check up and all is well

Just got home from the hospital after my check up.  Was sent for Xrays first, one lying flat and one with knee bent and turned outwards. Replacement is right where it should be.  Consultant said I was walking well and tried to take away my crutch, but I said I needed it to poke people in the supermarket who came too near with their trolleys.  The 'infection' is a mystery.  Consultant poked and prodded me and said there is no infection there now.  He asked me what made me think I had an infection and I described the pain, the redness and that it felt hot and he just said "Hmmmm", difficult to say without seeing it at the time".  Told me yto finish off the course of antibiotics anyway.  He think the lump/fluid is a haematoma and should disperse.  I forget when he said he wanted to see me again - it was either 3 months ot 6 months.

Happy me cheesygrin

Am so very very happy for you Cels - great news for you and shows how well you,ve done . Antibiotics wont have done you any harm anyway although it would be nice if all professionals thought the same thing about our problems 😀.....but thats never going to happen ! Well done you - go forth and drive , poke people with your stick etc etc 😄😄😄😄

      Thanks Bini cheesygrin

I still think it was an infection, what else could explain the sudden redness, heat and additional pain?  But hey ho.

Guess who is going to the hairdressers tomorrow?  wink

    Congratulations Cels!

very happy to hear your news, especially after the set back with the infection. At what point did you walk unaided? I would love to ditch the crutches, but can't walk without an almighty limp and as it doesn't really hurt, I think it's psychological.I cant wait to drive and get back to normal- if this is ever possible! I am 4 weeks post op.

      Hi Alipet,

The physio took away one a couple of weeks ago, said I didn't need it.  I sometimes walk in the house with no crutch but not far.  Consultant wanted to see me walk unaided and it was just one of those good moments - sometimes I limp and I wouldn't want to walk far without a crutch just yet.  I practise walking slowly and making sure my stride with my bad leg is the same as my good one.  It takes concentration and will power lol Xxx

    Hi happy you -

Phew - done and done ...CONGRATULATIONS -

so, now that you know , promise you won't go crazy , okay?

Going to have your hair done is a great way to start pampering Cels ... If chair is too low, ask for a cushion - stand up and walk around a bit if the wait is longish - I just had my hair done and even now I still do this (their toiletseat is ridiculously low !!!)so many moons post-op-

    Embrace and celebrate Cels

    big warm hug

You know what I was just thinking - how come some people carry on being athletes and even ballerinas, when we have to FIGHT for every healthy step????? 😡😡😡

Her - 38 years old, athletically toned muscles and hip injury rather than osteoarthritis, plus the stamina to get back to full strength.

Me - 67 years old, not in great shape, osteoarthritis and no desire to put my body through punishing regimes.

      wink
