Well I dunno if it's me or what.6 weeks tomorrow since my op and I undestood I was to have a check up at six weeks.  I had heard nothig so called the hopsital appointments office and was told I did have a ap, 19th at 2oclock and would get a letter.  No letter came so I called again on Monday morning and said did I still have this ap. as no letter.  They said yes.  It was my consultants secretary i spoke to.  So, I go to the place they told me to go and went to reception and guess what no appointment for me.  I was told after they had checked that my appointment was for 20th Nov at 2 oclock, thats 10 weeks after mu operation.  Did anyone else wait that long.  I wanted answers to lots of questions, now have to wait again.

    hi Kath

    Dare I ask which hospital?

6 weeks is the norm and you need to be checked out to make sure everything has bedded in. My 6 weeks check was poor and here i am 22 months later still in pain.

Call back and ask the secretary why you have been put back and dont be fobbed off

    take care

    Chris

Hi Kath I didn't have a follow up appointment for 12 weeks. In fact didn't see anyone at all during that time except for 1 visit at 10 days post op to remove stitches.

Christine that so reassuring.  I only saw the nurse like you to take out the staples in my case.   I do feel better knowing that some one else had to wait a while.

My 6 week check up was a little late at 7.5 weeks. I did have questions which I asked then, anything urgent I would have asked my GP, thankfully I was not

    Hi kath

Was given my 6 week appointment when I was discharged it will be 4 weeks Monday got no pain but find it hard to walk without crutches.

Hiya, I was slow to ditch my first crutch, but ok now with just the one and can move around indoors without, BUT!  I do find it gives me more confidence to use it.  My hip joint is painfree, just the muscles and other bits thta was pushed and pulled about that give me a bit of ain.

      Regards Kath

Generally i have found aftercare pretty poor. I was given.... 2 nurse appt and one home physio. The first nurse knew nothing about orthopedics the second said i had no stitch above my wound. ..she dug around. . Said no stitch and left the dressing off. Where showering the next day felt a stitch. Went to the doc. It was infected. He had to remove the stitch and re dress. I asked them all about my six week appt. No one knew. I was also told my contracted ( because i live out of the hospital area where i had the hip done ) physio would call me from my local hospital. Nope they hadn't heard of me. In the end i called the ward i was in and they finally sorted out my physio and told me my 6 wk appt is on this Monday. If i hadnt if called and chased i wouldnt have known!!!. I also wouldn't have physio. Pretty disgusting really

Kath - here in Australia, your first check is at 12 weeks unless you are having problems, and you raise the roof. I was told I was very lucky to get a 6 week check, only because I was kicking up and complaining, not that it did a lot of good.  I have now had confirmed yesterday the the obudsman has accepted my complaint and it has been fowarded as having merit. (their words not mine)

Lyn, seems a lot of peole go longer than the six weeks.  I was just hoping that the six week check would just be putting to bed any issues.
