7 months later hip replacement possible complications. need help please

Posted , 10 users are following.

I got a full hip replacement (more evasive one) about 7 months ago. The first month was good, but after and now it seems worse than before the replacement. My pain level is at an 8-10 daily, groin pain( both sides), both hips feel like their going to give out, daily migraines, right knee gives out, whole back is extremely tight all the time and I have horrible lower back pain. I've done tons of physical therapy, pool therapy, weight training, chiropractor, acupuncture and epidural steroid back injections. Nothing works, if anything it makes it worse. Only medication that kinda works for the pain is pot. Because all this I can barely walk. I am really lost, and have now fallen into depression because of it. Any advice please?

    Hi Neil,

thr is not the easiest thing to overcome, even with the best surgeon there seems to be these glitches that can drive us nuts. Remember this is major surgery. It takes time for the bone to grow and stabilize the hip implant components. Muscles tendons and tissue all take time.  It can be so miserable no matter how hard you try to build muscles. Maybe rest is a good idea and time. It took at least one to two years for each of mine to heal.

Then finally just have a day without pain even today it's very rare. Everyone I'd different. Always follow UR doctors advice. It pc you think there is something wrong the perhaps another opinion will help.

    Healing thoughts sent your way!

    3 time THR

    Hope

It might be a good idea to go to your GP and ask if you can have an x-ray if you have not already had one of course.  This might show if there is anything wrong with your hip replacement, if it is the right size or if it has become dislodged slightly.  Don't get too depressed, get a referral to a specialist or another opinion from a Consultant.  Good luck.

I have heard and know enough to tell you do not give up.  Keep after the Dr.  I am 18 months and just finding out that I might have nerve damage.  Tests at the end of the month.

You know your body and it seems as if you have a lot of signs that there might be something going on.  If your Dr. will not help go to another until you get the help you need.

Hi elaine02151, I'm 9months post left THR and having problems aren't sure if mine is nerve damage or muscle damage or both!! Was referred to another surgeon to see why I am walking with a limp, not able to walk far with out support of a stick or holding who ever I'm walking withs arm. Had X-ray and all looks ok, going to have ultrasound to see if that will show the problem, really shocked as my mobility is worse now than before I had the surgery, as my surgeon said it was his fault, and this maybe my life now,

They need to refer you for nerve and muscle tests to see if it is that and were the damage is to see if it can be fixed.  I will let you know how mine goes after the end of the month.

    Hi

I think you should get a referral back to the hospital and have proper tests, scans x rays etc

    See what they say.

Don't get depressed.....I found that once you had a name for it you could cope. You had a better idea what to do to manage it.

    Good Luck

I know how you feel. It's been 16 month since my THR and I have 8-10 degree pain 7/24. Drug don't help. Neither does P/T, Acupunture or cortizon shots

Don't know what to tell you  but your pain sounds different than mine? Mine is in the socket and on the outside by where to insission was.

Sound like you may have a lower back problem??

    Best Wishes,

So sorry to hear how much ur suffering.

Have u had MRI or c scan to see what's going on with ur hips?

What kind of pain are u having? Like joint, muscle, nerve, groin?

I had terrible groin pain.went to PT found out that ilio pasos muscle which comes from behind ur hip then goes down the front of leg.

She found that muscle was tight& inflamed. She has been doing very thumb deep massage.before this I couldn't lift that leg into the car or into bed or cross it over the other leg.even had to hold it up to put my jeans on.

Now it feels better.and I can pick it up by itself into the car and bed.and can now cross it overt the other.I'm 8 months post op.have you tried that kind of massage? Might be an option.it does hurt when she does the deep massage..But over time it gets better.finally off pain meds.

    Hi

    I'm sorry no more suggestions

If you had just had blood tests or even an x ray i would say go back but an MRI shows up pretty well everything except pain......

What about your GP again.....If its osteoarthritis its the GP that deals with pain.

    Can you see if you can get any different pain killers {although i say they are pain dullers LOL}

I havent found a pain medicine that actually works. Pot does the same and is healthier for me. It possibly could be that, right before I had thr the told me I had osteipenia as well as some arthritis. I've been really curios about that too because that's what the pain feels like. The docs just don't really listen to me

      Hi Neil

Be careful if you have osteopinia

I had when I went for my 2nd Hip replacement.....they tgreated everything as normal and i was doing an NHS exercise and I fractured the "Greater trochanter bone" long story but I'm on crutches for the rest of my life
