7 months since thr and can barely walk so depressed

When my hip dislocated my leg never returned to the nice straight leg it was after surgery.  My knee is angled towards the other leg and my foot is not under my knee anymore which makes walking a painful experience. The surgeon won’t image it or except that it’s a problem. He thinks it’s my fault for not walking at first after the dislocation. Should I get referred to a different doctor in a different hospital for a second opinion. I’m his second ever to dislocate.

Taking in a step backwards seems quite an easy way if dislocating a hip and we never seem to be told about it until it happens.

Right? I can’t believe they never mention it. I was told no precautions and my surgeon says that I’m healed even though I’m taking 3200 mg ibuprofen a day to endure the pain 7 months later.

I had a hip replacement 16 mths ago and from the very first my leg was never straight, the knee turned toward the other knee but from the knee down, but from the knee down it was  on an angle away from the body, the specialist told me it was my back and made it clear he didn’t believe it was my leg.even though it was obvious. At14 mths it dislocated,it was put back in and at first seemed so much better, but though it’s not as bad as before the pain is still there and I still can’t walk more than a 100mts.I have now gone to another surgeon,he agrees there is something very wrong.all the tests show it should be normal but he can’t figure out what is going on,I go for an explority in Oct because he says I shouldn’t have to live like this, so we’ll see what happens. Please  don’t just leave it,get another specialist to check it out,if your legs not straight then there’s something wrong.

Can you walk without a cane? I still can’t bare weight on it and at times have to pull out the walker because it’s too painful.  It’s hard having to try to figure out how to get help when the surgeon says that I have to walk and that there isn’t anything wrong with my leg, says it’s all in my head. Im still waiting for an MRI through my GP.  It takes a month or more just to get that appointment and meantime I’m in pain and hoping that I’m not going to be disabled from this. The good hip which never hurt now feels like it’s going because I’m limping. I am thinking about taking the advice of going to an ER in agony

Please use TWO crutches until you are walking strongly with a good gait. You will make far better progress and your back will thank you.

      Good luck, Richard

I agree with Richard. Use two canes until you are confident to give you more support and hopefully make walking easier. We all heal at different rates. Can I ask how old you are and whether you are small or large build. I think these factors make a difference too. I really hope you find a solution very soon.

Im 56 and a small build, I’ve always been very active and strong. I live in a city of hills and walk everywhere. So I thought that I would quickly heal. Always have.

would it make sense that that the femur stem was put in the femur at an incorrect angle wouldn't you think?

Yes Charlie but I’ve had all tests and they’ve come back normal, the MRI,X-ray scan my left side (the bad one) looks no different than the other,he can’t figure it out,he can see the way I walk is not good so the next step is a small operation to see if he can find out where the problem is.Fingers crossed, but thanks for your input.

its possible, my operated hip protrudes and my knee inverts.

I was just wondering if you have knee pain..sound to me like your knee was dislocated or something..wow..you poor thing ..I'm so glad your seeing another specialist .I certainly hope you get answers .

I am 7 weeks post op and have been lucky enough to make a very good recovery. I still have a bit of soreness and twinges around my knee but, if you think about it, the operation dislocates the top of the femur, saws the top off, drills into it and then knocks the stem of the new hip into it. It's all very rough and the other end of your femur is in your knee. I expect most people get knee pain for quite some time. It just sound logical to me so I'm not worrying about it. I feel very sorry for Kathleen and hope she gets a solution soon.

I did not have sedation so listened to the noise! I wonder if the surgeon is more careful if he knows the patient can hear what is going on.

Brave lady! I'm sure that you are right. All the best. Richard

I did get an X-ray and the doctor said the bones are in place but there’s definitely something wrong. If my knee turns the pain is shocking

That’s a mistake, ouch. I was dislocated for 8 hours then a reckless student doc didn’t put me under and traumatized my leg trying to relocate the hip for a good 4/5 minutes. I felt everything screaming at the top of my lungs. Don’t ever let a student touch you, ask them for the top ortho. 2 hours later the real ortho put me under and relocated it. Problems ever since that trauma.

      Anoukhip,

I was cringing while reading your post, how awful putting you through all that pain. I hope you told the qualified guy so he could teach the students. Hopefully you will get the hip put right soon.
