8 weeks on Citalopram...should I increase?

Hi everyone

Ive been on cit for 8 weeks now and I feel very anxious all day and night, my appetite is very poor and find myself to feel extremely lazy. When I wake in the morning my brain feels like it's on fire with bad thoughts consistently and just can't relax no matter what I do.  A lot of people say give it 12 weeks on the same dose but my doctor wants me to try 30mg. I'm scared of moving up because of the side effects starting again. Any advice would be great.

Three months is about right.. upping isn't going to make you feel any better..when you up a dose is like starting all over again...

Hi, the anxiety should get better soon and my appetite began to return around 8/9 weeks. However the tiredness got worse for me so 12 weeks in I’m weaning myself of them

Can I ask what dose you have been on? I feel the same with the tiredness, never felt so tired in all my life, I can sleep for England..haha. How do you feel when weaning off them?

side effects will not come again just because you are upping the dose

I agree with you Lois...I know there will be side effects because of past experience. Just my opinion though

I was on 20mg and recently upped to 30mg.  Definitely experienced side effects.  After 2 weeks, the worst of it is starting to pass.

I find it's like starting again, maybe not as bad as the initial dose.

Thanks for all your replies, I was expecting a mixed reaction as everybody has different experiences. Some people say there is side effects  when upping and from my own experience from other ssri's that's how I felt and couldn't handle the increase that's why I'm dubious about moving up. I've noticed on here people seem to start getting better after 3-4 months so I will hang on another 1-2 weeks, speak to my doctor and see how I feel...i suppose doctors don't understand how people feel on these meds so I will take advice from people on here who actually understand the process of meds. Thank you all for your support it helps.
