8 weeks on Citalopram...should I increase?

Hi everyone
Ive been on cit for 8 weeks now and I feel very anxious all day and night, my appetite is very poor and find myself to feel extremely lazy. When I wake in the morning my brain feels like it's on fire with bad thoughts consistently and just can't relax no matter what I do. A lot of people say give it 12 weeks on the same dose but my doctor wants me to try 30mg. I'm scared of moving up because of the side effects starting again. Any advice would be great.

Hi brye I'm on 20mg citalopram in morning and 15mg mirtazapine at night it's my 4th day and my anxiety is getting a bit better to handle as your doctor about these meds as they also help you have a good night's sleep x

Hi dove I tried mirtazipine for 6 months last year and didn't go to well, I felt actually worse on them and horrible to get off them but that was me they might work for you. They do make you sleep well but for me the feeling of being detached was too much for me as I cud the function, that's how I've ended up on Citalopram to try and balance myself out. X

I totally agree Lois...if truth be known, I don't think I ever recovered from them, I thought I was losing my mind....it's hard to explain. Have you had them before?

I take a low dose during the start up on citalopram, and like the others don't particularly like it but it does give you the sleep you need. After a while on the cit I reduce then drop it altogether. Once the citalopram is fully working you don't need a sleep aid.

Being on Mirtazapine alone wouldn't help me either but being on both for a while during citalopram startup does help with sleep.

But why take another anti depressants for sleep..when you can totally take a sleep aid like ziplocone..with a totally different chemicals..so it doesn't interrupt the celexa..just curious..
