9 weeks post op and pilates

Hi all fellow hippies

My daughter has asked if I will attend a Pilates class with her. She has spoken with her instructor who has advised that so long as I have been discharged all would be fine.

I have not been discharged and due to see my consultant again in June. However, this is due to the fact that, in September, I am having my other hip replaced.

Could anyone please tell me how many weeks, post op,they were discharged.

Is anyone experienced in Pilates and, if so, what would be your advice?

Many thanks

Morrie

I attended a few pilates classes when I was suffering from osteo arthritis. It's about working the inner core muscles and shouldn't affect your hip. I told the instructor I was suffering from arthritis and she advised just to do what I am comfortable with.It is mainly working out on a mat working your muscles. You should not feel a strain on your hip during theses exercises. All instructors will ask you to check it out with your consultant prior to attending as they do not want to be liable in any way. It's fun enjoy. You will know your limitations just go nice and steady. It may look like gentle exercise but believe me you will feel it the next day

I went to a few pilates group classes on the advice of my daughter-in-law.

As you say I was told to only do what I could manage and it was fine.

After going away for a couple of months to Cyprus where I swam a lot and practised the exercises I had been given by my physio,I have not started back with the pilates, but I believe it is useful. In fact the 3 sheets of exercises my physio gave me are very similar.
