A possible kidney stone solution

I had my first kidney stone at the age of 34, 1 cm stone that was surgically removed and stent put in for a week. For year she now I have taken magnesium citrate and no symptoms since (I am now 39). In December I had an ultrasound of my lower body for a ruptured ovarian cyst and low and behold they saw 4 stones in my left kidney and 1 in my right. I wanted to cry.
I did research online as I was preparing for how I would deal with multiple stones and found the first new thing that has been posted in the journal of urology in years as a possible way to treat kidney stones. Hydroxycitrate! They are testing this on rats and showing that they can actually help dissolve stones. I found it on amazon and started taking it Jan 2-Feb 28.in the meantime I visited my urologist and showed him what I was taking, he told me to keep taking it but most likely we would need to remove them somehow from my kidneys if they did not pass. I told him I would get rid of them. He ordered a CT scan with contrast for mid March.
the results of the scan showed signs of “no urinary calculi” with the radiologist noting in comparison to ultrasound of Dec/17 showing 4. The ultrasound said each stone was around 4mm.
This is what I did
drank much more water a day
took hydroxycitrate 500-750mg a day for 1.5 months
I am sharing this in hopes to help anyone dealing with kidney stones. I will now take a monthly maintenance dose of hydroxycitrate (4 days a month) to prevent regrowth of any stones.
Just google hydroxycitrate and you will find the new studies they are conducting on rats.
Hydroxycitrate is a byproduct of garcinia Cambodia (yes stuff dr oz was promoting years ago for weight loss). The only supplement I could find of just that was on amazon canada

I just ordered some off Amazon. I'm willing to give it a chance. I have a 5mm sitting in my left kidney and go back in March for a recheck. I've been taking Chanca piedra, but I'm not aware of it doing anything at this point (on my third bottle). If this helps, I will be elated. If I can avoid another procedure, this will be huge! Thanks for offering a possible solution.

I have had one shockwave lithotripsy and one uretorscopy with laser lithotripsy. But my first urologist also sedated me two separate times to place and remove the stent (which I thought was overkill). In between those procedures, I passed six stones that were 4mm (two of those were almost 5mm). It's turning into an annual problem...and expensive. We were planning on getting my son braces this year with our flexible spending account, but looks like we are already going to have to go out-of-pocket if I need another procedure. I don't believe I could choke down apple cider vinegar...but I do add lemon and lime to my water as much as possible.

I've been extremely busy the past few months, so haven't spent any time on here in a while. But I thought this was important to share. I went with your hydroxy citrate suggestion and have been taking it for almost two months now. Today was my three month follow-up for the 5mm stone in my left kidney. I had no idea what to expect, but it turns out it's now a 4mm stone and there has been no new growth or any other stone formation. This is a first since I started having problems with stones. There's almost always growth or additional stones in three months time. So I'm going to take this as a win and continue to use the hydroxy citrate. The only other thing I've been doing is adding a magnesium supplement and B6. I stopped the chanca piedra because I don't think it helped at all. I've also started Intermittent Fasting (not the fad diet kind), so I only eat once a day (twice at the most). This is for the health benefits and I'm involved in a very supportive group that believes in clean fasting and not denying ourselves the things we love when our eating window opens. So big changes in my life. It's helped me to increase my water consumption because I can only drink water, black coffee or plain tea during my fast with no flavorings, artificial or otherwise (which is a minimum of 16 hours long, but usually 22 hours long). If anyone is interested in IF, look up the book 'Delay, Don't Deny" by Gin Stephens on Amazon (and she has a very supportive FB group of the same name). It's not a diet, it's a lifetime way of eating and has seriously repaired my relationship with food in two months time. And for all I know, could also be contributing to my stone not getting any bigger and actually losing an mm in size. My urologist was so happy, he told me to keep doing what I was doing and instead of a three month recheck, he extended it to six months. Feeling optimistic about my kidney stones for the first time since all of this started. Check out the hydroxy citrate on Amazon if you haven't already. I think it really is doing something (at least for calcium oxylate). I take two capsules per day.

Wow Luna that's sounds really good on it all I wanted to do If . But was not sure and will look for the fb group and will definitely get some hydroxy citrate too . Still do not know what my stone is yet should know in the next month but not seeing my urologist until August. I don't feel Chanca piedra is doing anything either. Thanks for that information Luna nice to hear your doing great x

Anybody have any experience with hydroxycitrate and very large stones? I've had this 3cm stone with me the last ten years, and it's becoming problematic. Not looking forward to the surgery to remove this, but when I asked doctors about using ECSWL on this stone, I was told there would be a risk of the stone shattering, which would then block the entrance to the ureter causing a life threatening situation.
