accepting fibromyalgia

hi, im new to this site but have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I need to know if others experience the same as me as i have days where i feel i am imagining i have an illness and i should just pull myself together. I had a car crash 2 years ago with whiplash and also have had 5 years of serious stress. I am 62 and feel 90 some days. I am always dizzy, aching, tired and feel like i have permanent flu. I had all 18 points when i saw the consultant, bloods came back negative for everything else. I am having trouble giving up control, delegating and accepting i have this illness. I find i cry alot, very emotional at small things, am irritable, confused and have been told..unreasonable and snappy. My husband gets angry when im snappy, i get emotional, then i feel awful the rest of the day with the symptoms worse. I have said to him that maybe it would be better if i had lumps or sores, operations or treatments, some obvious sign i am ill, then i may get more understanding. How do you accept this horrible thing? Is this how its going to be forever?

It is good that your hubby got an appointment straight from the doctor and not have to wait for a letter to arrive. My son has been for appointments at Addenbrookes before as he lives in Cherry Hinton. He has said what a good service they give and how good they are in treating you.
Yes I have been having the usual aches and pains today in my knees and ankles. Our weather has been dull and dismal as well. I feel a bit better though as I have had my hair done today and the hairdresser comes out to my house. Always makes me feel better when hair is done!
Looking after Sophie tomorrow so will be feeding, changing nappies and cuddling her. Hopefully in between all this she will have some sleep
Stewart is off tomorrow as well on his rest days before he starts next shift.
So all hands to the pump lol. Be nice to spend sometime with her. Saw them both tonight after Molly finished school. Molly was showing me how she could write her numbers 1 - 11. She is doing so well!
Well I hope everyone gets a good night sleep. I need one as well so lets all keep our fingers crossed.
Take care all

Well Tess I had two hours sleep the night before last and I slept ok last night? my father in laws birthday is 1st and my mums is the 20th of December so it is always tricky deciding what to get them too. Olivia loves high school musical and she thinks Zac Eflon is fit as she says!!! Hope you like your new hair? I hope you enjoy your time with Sophie xxxxxx
Olivia is ok \"no abnormalities\" so I am going to see how she goes before we take her back to the GP? We missed our dental appointment last week my eldest daughter Melissa and me and to re-arrange another appointment I have to pay £20 to have new appointments due to me missing the last...... I will have to do one at a time I think so I will let Melissa go first as I have spent up with crimbo prezzies
I am in so much pain today in my hip and back so not happy today..... my body must have somehow wanted to give me a break yesterday but it has come back with a vengeance I am at the doctors tomorrow for the lung capacity test.
Helen I use crutches every day well one that is as I can't used two due to getting pain in my shoulders but it kind of takes the pressure of the right hip that I get more pain???? I hope your back specialist Appointment is not too long too, Have you not thought to ring them? just tell them you have had enough? So glad your dad is doing well xxxx You are doing well coping with everything xxxxx
Another sunny day today but bad weather is suppose to be here for the weekend so wonderful hey!!!!! We do not get snow much here being right next to the beach but we get severe wind so can get cold due to this...... not good for fibro sufferer either way!
Linda, I manage it by ......... If I have things to do and focus on things it helps me somehow, I have to keep thinking of plans etc instead of feeling sorry or myself as at the beginning I was like this and I didn't cope very well....... I was very tearful and emotional but now I except the situation  as that is all I thought I could do !! anyway there is a big petition on FMA Uk for petition to be signed by local MEP's and we need all the support we can get so if you go onto this site, you will see if your elected candidate supports our awful condition!!!!!

Hugs and kisses and hope we all have a good night sleep xxxx

Was just catching up with some posts.
Like alot of u , Im wakening up around 4am with sore shoulders and neck...and I just find it impossible to get back to sleep at the moment. Tossing and turning....grunting and groaning...and Ian tells me....snoring like a Boeing taking off.. He actually said he was about to get up and come downstairs and sleep in the living room it was so bad...
Ive made another appointment with another GP in the practice for this coming Thurs. Im not accepting the \"fat belly\" diagnosis... Im laughing, but I shouldnt. There are people out there that would accept what the GP says...as they should know. But, unfortunately, its isn`t always the case. So, we`ll say what this one says.
Like u SES, Ive got most of my Christmas shopping done. Just perfume and sweeties for the girls. Aftershave for Connor and he wants weights :? Still got Ians to buy mind u.
December 1st...and my tree goes up. I can`t wait. I love the whole month of December. All the Christmas movies, lights on in the shopping centres, Christmas music! I know, I sound sad....but I just love it.
Hope everyone is ok.
Catch up soon.

That good news Ses for Olivia with results! I hope you got on ok with your lung test today as well. Sounds like we all need lots more sleep if our aches and pains will let us.
Don't worry Di I haven't done much of my xmas shopping yet. Still got lots to get. Must get it done soon or be running out of time lol  Still trying to find out how many of the family are coming for Christmas Day lunch. One year cooked for thirteen! That was fun! Since then invested in a food warmer the best thing we have ever bought. A god send at Christmas when cooking for a lot of people.
Lindy it is good to hear you are going next Thursday to see another doctor. I hope this one takes you seriously! Have you kept a diary of how you have been feeling that you could take with you. That sometimes helps! I did but the rheumatologist I saw didn't want to see it as he just did the test and said I had Fibro. But will help if you did to convince a doctor.
Well been looking after Sophie today! Talk about dirty nappies bless her! She seems so small putting on a disposable nappy although she last weighed 9lb 6oz. She didn't cry too much and had all the breast milk Amy left her. Luckily Amy was back to give her another feed when all the milk had gone. Forgot how much time a little baby takes up lol  Was lovely to spend the day with her and Stewart was there helping me feed her too.
Just heard tonight that my Dad who is 85 has got to go to hospital. He hadn't been well and said he had a stomach ulcer and could be anaemic so took some blood at 9am this morning. He had phone call tonight to say they wanted him in hospital as he had lost a lot of blood. He is now waiting to be picked up anywhere in the next four hours. Should be ok as think they will give him a blood transfusion. Claire is going to see him later. She is at work tomorrow so should possibly see him sometime during the day when she has to take a patient there.
I hope we all get some good quality sleep tonight.

Well I hope we all get some good

Sorry about your Dad, Tess, hope everything goes ok. Will you be able to visit? Sounds like little Sophie is doing well! Its lovely to look after them when they are so small isn`t it, a time not to be missed as they grow so quickly!
Back to GP with hubby today, because of his breathing etc. He`s to have a chest x-ray on Tuesday, blood test a week on Monday and then an appointment with the specialist heart nurse a week on Tuesday. Another exhausting week ahead!! Lol I won`t be able to plan too much else on those days because I know the fatigue will set in and then I won`t be any use to anyone! The x-ray will be the problem because parking at Addenbrookes is dreadful so usually have to get there really early to get a disabled space and then the walk to x-ray is still too far to manage for either of us in one go. Still a rest and a coffee halfway helps.
Hope your lung test went ok today, Ses, you are still young to be suffering all these things, life seems so unfair sometimes.
Well. going for a rest now as the GP appointment was quite tiring, mentally more than physically, trying to take in everything he said.
Take care everyone, and hope we all get some sleep tonight.

Well I got my results straight away and I have the lungs of a 34 yr old and I am 36 and she said it appears I do not have asthma according to this test and yet I was diagnosed with asthma when I was about 11 so what is going on here???? I saw the Gp too as I woke up in so much pain last night around 4.30 as I feel I have a water infection so she has give me a three day course and she said to phone back on Monday and then the results will be back to see if I need further medication????? I think she thinks I am a hypochondriac or something as loads of things are bothering me at the moment....... it is so painful even walking as the pain is going into my groin again and into my knees she did say however this is due to the Osteo, but it was the way she looked at me as though I was silly........ she said the breathing problems could be due to acid reflux and so has given me some Ranitidine tablets??? and then once I am to see how things are then she will do further blood tests as she wants to deal with this first? anyway I just feel like crap and I do so wish there was a magic wand to ease our pains but just got to put up with it!!!
I do hope you dad is ok Tess and settling ok x I hope he starts to feel better soon after his treatment x at least they have found out what is wrong straight away as I have known old people that suffer in silence, so nice to hear that your dad is being looked after by the medical profession x It only seems like yesterday I had Ethan, it is so amazing how they change with different things from day to day, one day they are glaring and smiling and before you know it they are crawling........... a lovely time at xmas I love xmas too and seeing little ones looking at the decorations is nice to as they are amazed by the lights and decorations, a nice time xxxx At least your dad will be better for xmas to Tess xxxxx
Lindy do not take that as the answer with this doctor as like I have said Fibro can effect your metabolism etc, I hope you get help as soon as possible x
Linda I hope you are resting today after your tiring day and I hope you along with everyone else has a good night sleep as looking after your hubby will be worrying you and then it can cause you to be more tense because of the worry (The same with Tess with her dad xx) which can make your pain levels worse xx I do hope you can relax a little so you are not overcome with too much pain xxxxx as when I am stressed the pain is ten times worse xxxxx
Take care everyone gentle hugs xxxxxxx thinking of you all, sweet dreams and I hope we can all have a good night sleep xx

Hope you are all better than me this morning.
Did your dad`s treatment go ok Tess?
You sound as if you`re doing as well as my husband Ses! I`m sure that`s why our GP asked us to go back again instead of dealing with everything in one appointment, he thought hubby was making it all up! He apologised yesterday and said he was rather overwhelmed with all that had happened to hubby during the 6months he`d (GP) been away. Was very concerned by the end of consultation! So don`t give up Ses, you know how these things are affecting your life and the need to get them sorted.
Not a good morning in our house today. Ray (hubby) couldn`t even see to eat his breakfast, pushed it to one side and sat and cried. Says he just wants to die, as no-one cares or does anything to help him (medical wise)
That`s not true since our own GP came back. The six months he was away were dreadful for all of us, we didn`t really get anything solved just put off with different things to try. It turns out now that the cough that`s lasted for over 5 months could be connected to his heart not pumping properly! I`m coping with it all at the moment but know very well from past experience that when things calm down I will go under. Am wondering if I should talk to GP and explain just how bad things are, i`m sure he`s depressed having gone down that road many times myself. I`ve never seen him this bad in all the 25 year that he`s been disabled. I`m sure it`s the sight problem that really upsets him. Anyway, sorry to have rambled on but just needed to ge things our of my system1
Hope everyone does well today.

You husband Ray is having a bad time! I think you are right sounds like everything is getting on top of him. Might be a good idea to have a chat with your doctor about Ray and also if it is getting you down as well
I do hope things get better for Ray and yourself.
Not seen dad yet today going early this afternoon as visiting is at 2pm. Claire sat with him last night as they didn't pick him up until 8.30 and Claire stayed until about 10pm. She knows some of the doctors and nurses on that ward with taking patients in their with her job. She is at work today from 8 until 4 and said if she had to take a patient to hospital will try and nip in and see her grandad.
I am going to have a check on his flat before we go to visit and make sure everything ok. Do a bit of tidy up if it needs doing. I am not feeling too bad. Just wondering if I should get my own iron levels checked again.
Had three heavy periods in a spate of couple of months! Been feeling bit breathless and wozzy on getting up at times. I know these can be sypmtoms of fibro and could also be still to do with the change of my thyroid meds! Although been on new dose about a month now! It is so confusing when you have one condition with symptoms the same as something else. I think i will go and see what dr says as haven't had them checked since July. Got to go for a blood test in a couple of weeks so could probably add it to that one lol!
Well I hope you get things sorted out for Ray! You look after yourself as well.
I hope everyone else is not too bad today!

just been catching up on all ur posts..my god!!! what u all have been going through life is so hard eh, especially with this illness because of the stress that life brings that makes us all worse. I remember when my husband was really ill a few years ago with his heart he was in and out of hospital and i was up to 90 worrying having to cope with my kids being worried to, he till has episodes that he is ill but i now have to take each day as it comes.
I am so tired just now the fatigue is so bad, i have stopped my amitrypline and sleeping tables over this last week( dont know if im right to do this) but i feel maybe they are making me feel worse as i am so dozy during the day. i am at the stage with this illness that im so angry with it, i feel its crept up on me like a little monster and distroyed my life( i know all u poor people are the same) or am i just feeling sorry for myself?????
please tell me if i am and i will try and give myself a big kick up my big large bum lol
I really hope that Ray gets his problem sorted its so hard isnt it..
Also your dad as its horrible when someone u love is ill.. but he is in hospital so they will make him better..
hope u all are at least for today in not so much pain and enjoying what ever u are doing... luv ya all .. di x

I do hope your hubby picks up soon Linda as I can't imagine the pain you are going through just watching him, it must be awful..... bless you both and I do hope Tess everything is ok with your dad too xxxxx and I hope you both feel a bit better soon (as we can't feel totally better :cry xxxxxxx
Blood Tests mmmmm well I have to go for them again and as it is I am so sick of feeling like this (again like everyone else) I am in the worse pain though at the moment in my left hip well above it and it is below my rib cage. in the back.. probably due to the water infection I think I have????? but it is so painful even walking ....worse than ever...... sorry for moaning I feel that it is one thing after another eh!!!!! just got to smile or I/we would cry!!!
Di yeah I stopped the amitryptline as I felt like it had no use, bad side effects though so be careful???? feeling sick, and Di it is ok to say what ever you like as we all listen to each other as it helps our sanity LOL
Take care everyone, I am going to get my hot water bottle to ease this ****** pain, gentle hugs xxxxxx

I sure hope everyone (partners/dads/kids/and anyone else included... gets sorted out. There`s nothing worse when people u love are unwell and u can`t do anything to take away the pain. Its magnified when the professionals don`t seem to want to help either. Or at least we feel that they don`t.
Ive been up at my usual 4/4.30 ish the last couple of days. The pain in my shoulders is doing my head in ... The lack of sleep doesn`t help either....Im not the kind of person who can get back on a couple of hours....I need my sleep. I might need to get used to it huh....
\"and Di it is ok to say what ever you like as we all listen to each other as it helps our sanity \".........1 word to say to that.....ABSOBLOODYLUTELY.... it does help to get things off ur chest with people who know exactly what ur talking about.
Anyhoo....the weather here this morning is horrible. Windy and rainy. Hailstones battering the windows as I was typing this!!!
Take Care Everyone & catch up soon.

Thanks for asking about my dad! Saw him yesterday was quite chirpy considering  Had to have four bags blood yesterday! Got test on mon to look into stomach. Think it could be an ulcer bought on by having to much aspirin. Dr prescribed it for him to help thin his blood but never kept a close eye on him. Going to see him again tonight!
Sounds like we are all suffering one way or another with our pains. You have horrid weather Lindy where you are! We have it bright and sunny today worth getting out of bed for  Poor you Ses keep getting one thing after another really must be getting you down! Try and keep your chin up
Di don't worry about ranting on here! Its good to get it off your chest and help you being so stressed.
Got Amy, Andrew, Sophie I Molly coming for tea tonight. Then Steph my other daughter going to take me to the hospital! Its good my children all drive as comes in handy when Stewart at work. I don't drive so have to rely on others. They are all good though and will take me out especially in an emergency
Hope everyone get some relief from the pain today!

Fatigue is awful today, every time I sit down I fall asleep! Lol Guess it could be stress wondering what Ray might have to go through. He`s a bit better in himself today, not so down, but cough and breathing still not good.
Tess, I`m like you pain wise, doesn`t seem as bad as other people, but sleeplessness, fatigue and stiffness are the things I suffer most with. Also my muscles are very tender to touch, sometimes even my clothes hurt, but constant pain comes and goes. I also have dizzy spells, so much so that I have fallen several times, I also have an underactive thyroid, but the dizzy spells didn`t start until I got the fibro. Hope your dad`s tests go ok Tess, four bags of blood sounds rather a lot doesn`t it.
How are you today Ses, you certainly have a rough time of it, and you being so young too?
take care

Been back to hospital tonight to see Dad and looking a lot better. Probably got test tomorrow or tues.
Yes my legs are really playing up tonight  We did have some sun today but tonight really rough winds and raining. Last night we had a tornado where we live. Damaged the roof of a church and another building.
Hope everyone else is not in too much pain.
