Acid Reflux , Lump in Throat

Posted , 38 users are following.

I have been treated for heartburn the last few months and was given lansoprazole 30mg 1 a day.

I am still having acid coming up and have a sore tongue most days burning of the lips and roof of the mouh.

I have discomfort/ burning in the sternum and below the sternum and feel nauseus on and off during the day.

I went back to the doctors yesterday and told him that certain foods are now feeling like they get stuck in my throat and it feels like I have something stuck in my throat all the time. When I swallow I am swallowing something down all the time.

He has referred me to have an endoscopy but am so worried as my gran died from stomach cancer.

Has anyone had acid reflux and these sypmtoms and given some medicine to help them as the lansoprazole doesn't seem to help the acid.

I understand how you feel. About 4 weeks ago my throat was hurting so bad. I went to the ER they ER physician told me he saw something on my tonsils and it was viral he couldn't give me anything. I left upset went home made hot tea with lemon, honey and cough drops. The pain went away. To make long a story short. I went to the ENT they told me to start taking acid reflux meds. The day after I started and pill got stuck in my throat. I went back to the ER they said the pill would dissolve drink plenty of fluids. From that day on I've been having issues swallowing I haven't been able to eat and barely drink. My doctor had me do a Endoscopy they said the saw redness which is a sign of inflammation (esophagists) they did a biopsy. They have me some medicine after the results came back which is a acid reducer not an antibiotic and now is scheduling a barium test. In the midst of all of that I've lost 20lbs and still have that feeling in my throat and feeling like I'll get choked (like I've been doing) I'm so miserable and I pray everyday that God heals my body. It's like they don't understand the feeling and I feel like they aren't putting 200% into this issue but telling me that if this doesn't help it may be something with my throat muscles which is nothing they can do about that

Hi joequeata i feel your pain , i was the same for 3 months i loose almost 40 lbs , ask your doctor to give you Elavil 10 mg or 25mg( but that was to strong for me) the pain in your throw should go away , thats an old antydepresant but as a side effect it relaxes the neck muscle it help me a lot but still have some feeling that food is stuck in my throat after i eat( i was taking it for 2 months, and now no longer need it) , but its getting better , i was also taking ppi omneprazol 20 mg x 2 day and raniditin 150mg x 2 day for 3 months , you'll see you will get better

I have  LPR and the lumpy throat feeling.  I am much better now.  I refused PPI's as don't like what they can do long term.  I take Ranitidine am and pm.  I also take Pepzin twice a day and Mastic Gum before bedtime.  Made a big difference.  There are also a lot of spefic foods that will heal the throat - if you can't find any on google, I will pm you what I have learnt.

This is awfull to have and the more you worry the worse it gets.  You have a vagus nerve in the throat which controls emotions and heart rate.  When you have a panic attack, the nerve gets jangled and there are ways of calming it down (blowing on your thump like a trumpet is one).  The panic will disappear.  Hope this help - I am much better now.

Sorry this is mean or Joeq.

HEY all! I'm also feeling this "thing" in my throat, by the base. If i touch it, it makes me nauseous which is strange but even if I don't touch it it still makes me nauseous. I absolutely hate it! I tend to feel it more at night and can't go to sleep until the sensation passes. I'm not sure if it's gas since I burp A LOT or if it's acid reflux (I don't experience any burning). If I tilt my head up or to the side, it feels like an air bubble being released, idk if that makes sense. I went to a gastroenterologist because I've been having bad indigestion (for 8 days now) . I noticed that when I ate I had to burp but couldn't get it out, pretty much banging my chest like damn King Kong until I was able to burp. It got really bad last Wednesday, which all started after I ate Waffle House *cries* and was experiencing upper abdominal pain, SEVERE nausea, chills, and burping. Lots of it. I'm burping as I type. I lost 6lbs from not being able to eat properly since I was mostly only drinking ginger tea, eating crackers, and sometimes applesauce and papaya. The last 3-4 days is when I started to feel this lump in my throat. Now the doctor said it could be gastritis or acid reflux or an ulcer or H. Pylori. I'm waiting on my tests and I have an ultrasound appt. next week which will hopefully help me figure out what's going on! I think I may test positive for H. Pylori since I did go to Mexico in May and got a stomach virus (yay diarrhea and fever) I've been wonky since.

P.S I've had ocasional stomach aches in the past, which my boyfriend told me wasn't normal so maybe things have gotten progressively worse? I wish I would've noticed instead of dealing with this now *cries some more*

P.S i know this is long sorrry

Blend up some aloes, cucumber and coconut water . Drink one glass a day. Make sure and soak the aloes after you peel it because it will itch. Only thing that's helping me right now . Second day drinking, it helped immediately with the burning in my lower abdomen as well and I had it really badly . Eat bland foods . Hope it works

I feel your pain! I have reflux and have been suffering and drinking gaviscon by the litres for a year... finally I decided to go to an ear, nose, throat specialist because I feel like there is a lump at the bottom of my throat and I can no longer swallow food well unless its soup. Yesterday I was put on Pantoprazole 1 in the morning and 1 at night for 3 weeks after that reducing my dose to just 1 in the morning. When the Dr. went into my throat with a camera he said there is a lump there and its from acid, Has anyone had this? or have any experience with not being able to swallow? it almost feels like my body has forgotten how to swallow food. Throat feels very tight and there is a lump!!!

as i mentioned in my eariler replies i too have alot of these symptoms. but as for your lump the dr. said you have, did you have it bioposy. too much acid over time in throat and esophagus, spelling?, can cause cancer, i hope that is not you case, but i would want to be sure, and if fluid, have it drained, may help feeling. my lump in throat has got better, but if eat something? still cant figure out what food, the lump feeling will start all over. another problem i have, do you Nattydee, is the constant drainage/musus in my throat.  not as bad as it used to be, but i think im just learning to live with it. only thing i found that helps is sprees candy, sounds crazy, but something about the sugar content that helps sooth the lump and drainage feeling. you tell me, when eating high sugar foods do you notice the lump feeling as much? good luck, hope thing resolve quickly for you all.

Yes! I find the lump is less noticeable when I chew gum or eat candy! So bizarre! Today is day 2 of pantoprazole I haven't felt any side effects yet. When if at all should I expect to feel side effects good or bad? I'm nervous to have a bad reaction

i have not taken pantoprazole, so i cant be any help with what side effects. i've tried other scrips such as pepid ac,zantac,  and Omeprazole. i did not find these to help me, but everyone is different, maybe will help you. just living and coping with it, and eating alot of sprees at times. good luck.
