Hi again everybody. Isnt this problem a real pain. Something new seems to develop every day and knowing what to eat or avoid is a nightmare.Anyway in this message I would like to ask whether any one else like me gets a strange smell up their nostrils.I have for some time now and until today i was just assuming that this smell was being caused by the tablets i am taking Lanzesprosole and Ranitidine by I am now wondering whether its these causing it or something else. Whatever it is it isnt pleasant and cannot be masked by using cologne or after shave.Anyone having the same experience !

I sometimes get it,  used to be a really horrible smell the doctor told me I had a sinus infection...may be worth checking it out at the doctors..

Your posted reminded me of the strange smell I use to get and that I haven't had it for a while. I noticed it when I blew my nose is that when you smell it.

I never bothered about it, there could be many things causing it

Thanks wknight yes its something that could be just ignored as being unrelated to AR Ted

Hi Ted...I had a yogurt smell all the time that was bugging me. It was the beginning of my roller coaster ride into stomach issues. The Dr checked and found Ecoli, then started me on anti-biotics. Then the pain, unable to eat entire MESS! Which as I've told the group on here I finally got rid of with probiotics. So, I don't know if that is what's wrong or not, but it can't be good if you are noticing an odor.

Like Jenny said, probiotics. I had a weird smell in my mouth when I came off PPI's and probiotics fixed it in about 3 or 4 days.

      Luck

Thanks jenny I will go to see th doctor but when I do I expect I will get the comment as last time o your just one of the unlucky ones that het AR at your age Ted

Ted, if you have a Dr that sort of brushes you off with a "well, you just one of the unlucky ones" blah blah blah routine, maybe you should find another Dr. I was SO PERSISTANT that he "do this test and that test" that he sort of hated to see me coming...LOL. I was relentless, and it paid off in the long run! I'm free of Ecoli, free of stomach problems, free of the pain! Thank goodness! Gosh, I hope you can get some relief Ted. Health problems are such an ordeal! Take care Ted.....Jenny

Hi,  Just a week ago, I started having some bad smells coming from my stomach.  There is one particular smell that keeps coming back, the rest are kind of like I've developed a supersensitivity to all smells at times.  After 7 years on omeprazole with no smells or reflux symptoms, smells are coming on strong, with some reflux  Someone on another web site said they thought they had a smell like Ozone, and I remember being around refridgerants for cars with what I thought was labeled as that (could be way off) That is the recurrent smell I smell.  I think it is bile, but cannot substantiate that.  Can anyone describe a "bile" smell?

Unfortunately, I'm very familiar with this topic. I don't want to write a novel so I'll basically describe it as mouth farts. It's been going on for over a decade now and really affected me. I can't take PPIs so I'm on Ranitidine and even though they have been effective in helping with the acid reflux, I still get the intermittent and random wafts of sulfur stench. I have seen countless dentists, ENTs, GI docs and regular old family practitioners and none of them can figure out.  I would say most of them don't care nor want to address the issue.  My current GI doc point blank told me that  it wasn't important to her.  Not that it matters that it's important to me.

I'm pretty sure it's not dental nor ENT related as it's not regular and persistent bad breath. Plus, this issue started exactly at the same time as my acid reflux.' Essentially it comes out of my mouth just as wind would come out the other end.  It's been a huge social and professional downer for me.  You know how people say you can't smell your own bad breath?  Well, I can definitely smell these mouth farts and they are horrible.

I wanted to add that a recent ph probe test did cature 4 incidents of bile reflux over a 24 hour period. The analysis noted this higher than usual but didn't think it was an issue as I didn't note any symptoms.  The overall diagnosis was esophogeal hypersensitivity. I wonder if the odor may be related to bile reflux. Could it explain the intermittency of it?

I can totally relate to this, I've been dealing with my smell problem for 10 years and I've learned how to control it (sort of), in my case its all about the food, when I eat too much or heavy and smelly food like cheeseburgers, eggs and stuff inmediatelly I start feeling this heavy air around me, like in my breath, mouth, tongue, nostrils and so. I'm been doing some research and I've been doing some field tests when I go out and I'm currently seeing a GI, I believe my problem starts somewhere in the stomach, esophagus or something, I think maybe the esophagus muscle that opens when the food goes into the stomach is malfunctioning and letting pass all kinds of stuff from the stomach and intestines like gastric juices and smells, my biggest problem starts when randomly a very acid smell like from inside me explodes and everyone can smell and its kind of like "Holy s**t, did someone just crapped?", has someone experienced that same exploding smell?

      Hello

Do you still have this issues horrible smell coming out from you nose

I have the same symptom. This nasty smell of sulfur/rot. At first it started at night and going through to the morning. I found out by accident. I woke up and I saw my girlfriend (my ex-girlfriend and the last human being that I had relationship with) covering herself from me (literally disgusted face, trying to cover her nose while being half asleep). Every night was the same, but she would never tell me, despite me asking her direct questions - ''do I really stink?''. Then the smell increased and became a chronic problem, but by then everyone around me already left me to rot by myself. To make it all worse, I started loosing a lot of hair and it became all of a sudden too. The stink and hair loss started roughly at the same time and most likely have a strong link.

I used to work in a small office doing Business and Marketing when the stink started to come out and the never ending chewing gums stopped masking it. The frequent question - ''Did anyone fart just now?'' pretty much describes my reputation as a businessman and an office worker. I have worked in that office for 7 months and I just couldn't go on any longer. I just went on unemployed benefits for half a year and lived like a dog, because a dog's life alone is better then being this type of an outcast that I was/am in this society. I have spent all my money on doctor's and supplements that do not work. It is torture to be me. I want to say I am glad someone else shares my pain, but I am really not because I wouldn't want my worst enemies to have this condition. My life is hell and I actually hope to die sooner because I don't want to commit suicide. I have to admit I will be considering it in the near future.

But I am strong and I am not giving up my hopes just yet and trying all kinds of remedies to try and find a cure. I have only given up on the doctor's because they don't help and don't want to in the first place. I have also given up all of my friendships (even slight interactions with others) and now am a lone wolf. I was lucky to get another job (which involves a lot of customer service - lucky me) so I will have a source of income and have another go at improving my condition and my life.

What I think so far: I strongly suspect this to be a bacterial/virus infection. I think it is contagious and could be even airborne, but only certain individuals show any symptoms. That is, if it is not cancer or some tumor growth. This is as far as I got after a year of research and suffering!!! The NHS actually diagnosed me with GERD (over the phone) which I refuse to accept and I don't want to take Omeprazole poison which makes things worse.

It would be great to read more people write about the problem in more detail, like - when do you have the smell, what triggers it, what other symptoms do you guys have - like sudden hair loss etc.

We are all in this crap together, so let's help each other out

I share your every sentiment, i believe in the long run dealing with the GERD and or possible stomach ulcer problem can relieve us of this unnerving odour experience to some extent..... As for me, I'm willing to try until i can't anymore. That being said I believe it is very useful to share our various experimented solutions to this problem since we all have this in common ... who knows, one of us may very well stumble on a solution that can benefit us all.

PS being aware of acid reflux triggers like certains foods helps.

      Hi Joelel and Laurie,

i really had a lot in common with your experience, it is desperate. Please read my reply to the main thread, it was gastric ulcers for me in the final analysis, get the camera down and if it is ulcers, PPIs will help. Having my tonsils out too was not nice, but I got over it quickly.

      Best wishes,

      Mart

omg your so right battling same thing i believe its contagious and family member was pregnant and passed om to children all starting to have same symptoms in need of help

Mine wasn't h pylori, ignore that. Having camera down revealed bleeding ulcers, the smell must be that. I can't eat spicy food, wine now. My mum had burst stomach ulcer at similar age, and two of her uncles died from same, as did not have medicines back then. So I believe can be passed on. I take ppi Lanzoperazole twice a day, if I miss symptoms come back, also must eat regularly etc. Just had bereavement, so symptom of sore throat came back, sure enough people getting smell again. Mum got Barrets Oasophagus, where skin cells change. It is not solved, just treated. I don't like to be on medication, but better than alternative. I'm concentrating on healing. Good luck!
