Acupuncture for anxiety

Hi! I am going to acupuncture this evening for the first time. I am hoping to try it for anxiety and migraines. Has anyone tried it for anxiety? Any success?

Thank you for reply! Oh that is so great to hear that you found it beneficial!! Would your energy levels be low on a daily basis? I am constantly wrecked all my life sad I'd love the calming effect too.... everything is crossed it will help.

Are you going to have more sessions?

Oh cool, good it wasn't for life time like me! I will have it tonight at 8pm (not sure where you are based but I am in Ireland) so 6 more hours to go smile Excited but just hope to relax and let the guy do it, I'm not afraid of needles but since I have health anxiety I am worried something could go wrong! Ha ha

2 more to go for you sounds great, it shouldn't be too expensive treatment and hopefully it will help for a long time!

Lol I'm in Ireland too 😁 it feels weird, like your body starts to feel heavy and you get kinda tired but it's normal. Make sure you drink plenty of water before and after coz it can sometimes cause a headache.

I get horrible pain too in neck and shoulders and the acupuncture helped that too 👍😁 let me know how you get on with it. They say at least 3sessions before you start to feel better. I slept a lot after my first two. Exhausted haha

So here I am, back and all from the acupuncture! I think it went well! I couldn't fully relax since it was the first session but it feels good after smile I had a mild headache that was there all day but that went away after the session. But - I have a different type of headache now, on left side of my head. But other than that it feels good, I feel wrecked and dreaming of bed smile Your man said there is a lot going on so we will have to tackle few things at a time but he said I will get better. I think today relaxed me a good bit and I cannot wait to go to bed and get good sleep. I feel a bit dizzy or something, a bit drunk or smtg but it feels good smile He said I will need to go every 3-4 days for a couple of weeks now and then the spaces between sessions will be longer. Everything is crossed things will improve!

That's good to hear. So glad it went well. I actually loved my first session. I love how they go through every single thing your going through and try to heal you as a hole. When I go to the doctor it's like they only have time to discuss one issue and they don't realise that everything could be connected.. like I had glandular fever last year and have had a million health issues ever since plus anxiety.. but my doc can never figure out what the hell is going on.. When I went for acupuncture after listening to my whole story she concluded the virus is still there causing chaos all over my body and the goal of treatment is to flush it out!

I slept like a baby after the first session 😁👍enjoy ?

Great to hear you find it so good and that you found someone who tackles the issues with complexicity. You are right, GP's usually have very limited time and are trying to get to the point straight away rather than trying to understand what can cause the problem. All give give is more medications without trying to seek for alternative. When I asked my GP about CBT first he told me he is not going to refer me and he doesn't think this is something I need... eh just as well I didn't listen to him!

Umfortunately I didn't sleep well at all for some reason last night, in fact I was awake for a lot of the night but I am thinking it was prob my anxiety keeping me awake. Esp that I had a headache all night long too. Even now my head is sore at the back, where the base of the skull is but I think I feel calmer than the day before anyway so that is some start smile I will give it few sessions to work first and see then. Will keep ye posted how I'm doing so if I succeed maybe this will be something you should try too!

Looking forward to another session now smile

If anyone else can share their experience with acupuncture feel free to post please!

Hi Ann, apologies for late reply, somehow I unfollwed my own discussion! Haha

How are you feeling now? I think it takes time for changes... I don't think acupuncture itself will sort everything out, we need habit changes and the way we think... it takes time!!!

I have 3 sessions completed too, also I had cupping done on my back on the top of it. Feeling a bit calmer I must say.

No I do not take any ant depressants and tbh I never will! I know for some ppl they are life saver but have a slightly different opinion about them. They are not solving the problem but masking it. I think to fully overcome anxiety, once and for all we need to be conscious about the disorder and how it impacts our lives and how to fight it. Very hard road but I think it's the most effective.
