No Marie, it's not normal. Call your doctor right away, you may have an infection.

You should have seen a doctor before now hon, scar can become raised and sore, but would advise seeing perhaps your own doc for peace of mind. .....

No not normal Marie make an appointment to see your gp or ring hospital and bring your appointment forward to see your consultant don't wait for it to become worse, it will probably be ok just scar tissue knitting together but better to be sure

Hi Marie,You do need to see your doctor and have it checked. I did have the swelling and it was like you described. It's been five months since my surgery and it's fine.

I can only comment on the indentation. whether the swelling is inflammation or infection would take a blood test or medical advice on sight. ..esp if there's heat and it's florid. ...

The indentation may be due to cutting of muscle and tissue which is re sewn. My indentation has never changed over 15 months. The tissue underlying the scar and covering the prosthesis has undergone trauma and been stretched. massage and oil helps but don't do that until you're sure you've no infection. ... its very difficult for the first few months to know what is going on as we were never prepared for the result we get. ...at you able to call the treatment centre. ...I got reassurance from them for the first few weeks. ..hope everything is normal and nothing going on other than healing. ..

Thanks it is reassuring to speak to other people who have had it done. Find it difficult that no dr sees me until back at hospital after12 weeks

Hi Marie.  I'm 5 weeks in and have various lumps and bumps. Physiotherapist massaged it but I think it's worth seeing your GP.  If it's really red you might have an infection. Hope all is well Cathie

I was seen 16 days after surgery by a nurse practitioner who works for the surgeon and he removed my 25 staples, thoroughly examined the wound for oozing and ensured it was as it should be by actually touching it with gloved hand.  He then applied more antiseptic and then a skin glue down each side of the wound to which I then had loads of butterfly plasters attached.  I had a lump in the wound which is scar tissue and I've been told to massage it with scar cream or vitamin e oil once all the butterfly clips have fallen off.  If your wound is sore, swollen, red and spreading or oozy you need to see a doctor. I'm surprised your surgeon hasn't had you back yet.

Bio oil is very good. I have been using this on my scar and it is getting less lumpy.
