Can anyone help me please. My left knee and hip is really sore and stiff today. I general have good mobility and would like to know does a regular walking routine really help also do the rub in gel if so which is the best. I want to avoid pain killers for as long as I can. I want to try and help handle the pain better. I am due back at my doctor soon and have been on loads of medication has you will see from my last post and I want to go back with a plan on howI want to tackle this pain. Also my poor old dog has got bad hips so I hope the walking will help her too.

    Hi Pam

Definitely any gentle exercise helps enormously.  Just remember to 'listen' to your own body.   I have severe OA in one ankle due to a major accident and have no cartilage in that joint.  If I walk or stand too long it becomes inflamed.  However if I do no exercise at all it freezes up and is even more painful.  I've got to the point where I now know how much I can do to keep it moving and flexible and when to stop to prevent over exertion or wear and tear.  As Barbara has mentioned, swimming is also excellent exercise for those with OA as there is no load bearing pressure on joints.  Your dog will have the same issues, watch carefully when walking with her and if she seems to be limping badly etc., time to go home for a rest smile  Good for you avoiding pain meds, I hate them and only give in to a single naproxen when I'm in pain late at night from exertion (eg following travel or a long day at work etc).  Good luck hon. xx
