I was told by my consultant that you mustn't reduce it by any more than 200mg at a time as it will bring on more difficulty in other areas as your brain adapts to the new dose. The fastest you can reduce is by 200mg every 3 weeks for no additional side effects.

Thank you Rachel..I am in between doctors. Last pain doctor never got back to me. I been making phone calls like crazy to get this in order. I was taking mobic as well and it made my pressure high. Then I decided to cut Gabapentin and I was in bad shape for a week. I was taking 500 to 600mg per day before and now for a week 200mg. I wonder if I should go up 100mg for now then go down like another person said on this site, or just stick to the 200mg.  If I am a hour late taking it I go threw very bad anxiety and dizzyness.  What do you think I should do?  I know we are not doctors but just an idea and then I will look into it.  God bless you..Naomi

My question to you is:  are you currently taking any other meds besides gaba. ?  It could be the side effects from another med also ?  As for me getting off of gaba. from taking 900 to 1200 mg/day (for 4 years !).....I am now down to less than 100 mg/day (once per day in the evening only).....but has taken me 7 weeks to get to that point.....and I am still taking it slow. Yes I still get rebound side effects like nervousness, some dizziness, and confusion at times.....but I am making progress and feel so much better than on that high dose. I am still going very very slow on the down-dosing and hope to be down to zero in another month or 2......you just have to se how it goes and adjust accordingly.  Good Luck.

    Hi Naomi

You really need to find doc even if it's ER doc or substance counselor

    I was on 1200-1800 a day for 30 days

Doc weaned me by 300mg in am and 300mg pm for three days 300 mg once a day for 3 days

    It's hell first week

    Dizziness lasts a while

Mine was treated as benign positional vertigo

    And gave me exercises

    Also anxiety

    Jumping out of my skin

    Depression

Still have no joy and it's been three months

But it's a lot better than being on it or the detox from it

      Hi Jeshua

i finally am off of the GP. Feeling better but not 100 percent. I went to ER room did nothing.  I got my old pain management doctor back and he called me. The other one I should report. He never got back to me and lefted me hanging. That drug is evil.  I will pray you will get back soon. God bless...Naomi

      Hi Jeshua:

I been off GP for 6 weeks not and still feel lighthead, and pressure a litle higher than normal. I wonder if its still the GP or the fact that I have 4 heniated disc in neck and maybe its cevical vertigo.  What is your thought on that.?

      Well Done Naomi.

I too stopped gabapentin 300mg a day after reading about it. I stopped dead after stopping Fentanyl so had withdrawals from that. Yes, you are better without all these mind altering drugs. Have you considered Mindfullness or Cognative behavioural therapy or councilling to help with whatever issues you have. Support is essential to help with withdrawals.

I do hope you feel better soon and again well done.

      Hi Actiquser

Yes in the process of finding more support and counsel.  I don't have much family and I am divorced.  Out of work for 3 years.  Followed by workers comp private investigators for a year.  So its been really rough. I pray everday and even call the 700 club 24 hour prayer line.  God bless you all. Naomi

      Hi Naomi,

I am in the same boat as you getting off the gabapentin. I was on 1800 mg for about 4 months when I tried to drop it down further and then started having all the withdrawals from it. I am 41 days gabapentin free today ( 11/14/16-1st day without) and am still suffering from headaches, dizziness, and extreme nausea. How are you feeling? When was your first day GP free? Please update on your symptoms now, I'd like to check on you.. Hope your Christmas is well! Heather

Also I went off fast. I wonder if that the reason its lasting a long time.  I know its different for everyone.

I started tapering off of gaba. in August 2016 this year. Went from using abouty 1200m/g daily and weaned myself off by most going down from 900 to 1200 day in 100 mg/ increments at first over 2 to 3 months, by dropping 100 mg every 2 weeks. When I got to 100 mg, was splitting the cap. in 2 doses per day....then after 2 weeks  50 mg/day....then 2 weeks of 25 mg per day......it worked for me....I am now off of gaba. completely for 2 weeks now and feel fine......I do get some nervousness or agitation from time to time but mostly all good! I do recall that when using up to 1200 mg/day I was feeling very dizzy alot, probs. with coordination, feeling agtitated and agressive, nervous, and also very, very, paranoid and suspicious alot. Now I have none of that stuff anymore. Am so happy to be free of it...........so...it can be done.......takes determination and committment !
