AFIB & Sleep Meds/ Insomnia

So I have had very bad insomnia for the past 5 years and am going through a particularly nasty spell of several days now without sleep. I also have afib and am finding out that the two issues are often related. My question is, what sleep meds do you find work well for people with AFIB? I have used melatonin and found that it actually caused an AFIB episode for me. I don't generally like sleep meds, but I am kind of desperate at this time. Thank you!

I faithfully use Magnesium and Taurine about an hour before bed. Both are heart calming and assist in sleeping. There is a heap of research on Magnesium and mostly we are deficient in it. I have used it for 15 years along with potassium and other supplements. Whilst my AF is still with me it hasn't progressed to permanent or chronic and I read read read on all the latest research. Invaluable info from a site called AFibbers . Lots of info and knowledgeable people. Good Luck.

Just a PS to my post Pat...I have also found L-theanine, an amino acid abundant in green tea, raises your body's GABA levels and promotes calming alpha-wave activity in the brain. ... This helps tone down anxiety, anger, and other negative emotional states.
Also another supplement Pharma GABA is designed to naturally support a deep sense of relaxation without sacrificing alertness or mental sharpness. A key neurotransmitter, GABA promotes communication among brain cells to help relieve stress and occasional nervousness.
Encourages the brain waves responsible for concentration and tranquility, while also discouraging those associated with nervous, scattered thoughts. I have used both of them with good results but it might n worthwhile reading up on them for yourself and see what you think.
