Aftercare for biopsy ?

Posted , 5 users are following.

I had a biopsy 6 days ago to confirm LS. Two snips were done on the perideum (?). It looks terrible.  My gyn told me to stop the ointments and the Clob for a week.  It still hasn't healed and I haven't heard the results yet. Could you ladies share your experiences with the biopsies.  Did you continue the Clob use and continue using ointments?  How lond did it take for it to completely heal? She didn't use stitches so the area is still open.

Thank you.

    Hello Judy

I have been told i will have a biopsy on next visit in september if no improvement and am really worried about it because of my needle phobia. It sounds awful and i am really frightened. I hope you heal well and quickly x

I was pretty anxious about having the biopsy, but actually the procedure was not as bad as I had expected.  The injection was the worse, but it only lasts a very very short period before it all becomes numb.  The healing now is troublesome for me.  This is the sixth day and the worse day.  But will return to gyn in two more days.

Let us know how you do.  Good luck.

Thanks will do but if biopsy is only to confirm LS dont know whether I will bother as healing sounds bad

I agree the needle is the worst part but didn't want you to think about that bearing in mind your phobia. Honestly I didn't find the healing that much of a problem but it takes the time it takes and I guess the inconvenience of where it is is the annoying part.

I would go ahead and have the biopsy to confirm and have peace of mind. I was diag. 4 weeks ago.  I believe the worse part for me is just not knowing what to do or what to expect including the biopsy.  It is irritating, uncomfortable, and sore but not any worse than the LS.  For me it is looking at the site and not knowing if it is healing. Best Wishes.

My biopsy was 3 or 4 years ago now. My LS is symptomless but is the sort with acute atrophy. So ironically the site of the biopsy no longer actually exists anyway and in fact I have no inner lips now at all. Hey ho! Hopefully yours will indeed heal in its own time AND your Dermovate will continue to maintain you as it does for many people. If Cuppa T's mega biopsy healed ok then yours should so hang in there.

I had just one punch biopsy at the very back of a labia minora near the perineum but was stitched and it still took time to heal. It's bound to heal eventually. I wasn't prescribed anything until the results confirmed the diagnosis of LS but I would do as they say and leave off any unguents until you're more whole again. Maybe the sprays of a pinch of bicarb in water so recommended by many on here would aid healing? And even help your LS at the same time! I wish you well. And you too Glyn.

    Hi Judy.

My biopsy was done under general aneasthetic and gyn took 11 biopsy specimens, stretching from clitoris area right through to anus. All of the 11 had one or two sitches. I was told to stop the Clob for 6 weeks until all the wounds had healed and closed up.  Gynae said that Clob should not be used on open wounds or torn skin. Supiroban Ointment (I think it is a form of Bactroban) was used on the wounds and I was told to sit in a coarse salt water bath three times per day. In my case the wounds had healed after six weeks and I could then start the Dermovate. Hang in there with the clob until she gives you the go-ahead or phone to ask what you should do in the interim. Take care and all the best.

      Hi cuppa

Did you request the general aneasthetic or did the gyn offer it and if she did why did she offer it. Was it because they wanted to take so much tissue.

Oh my goodness! That period must have been very stressful for you.  I can't imagine. You have helped me put all this in perspective.  Thanks.

Oh my! Why on earth did they need so much? I can't imagine how that must have felt as my own one stitched area seemed sore enough for a couple of weeks.

      Hi Glyn

No..I did not request it. Gynae just advised that he was doing it in hospital based on the fact that he wanted to take a fair amount of tissue from the different spots and stitch them up again. He felt that he was better equipped to do it in hospital.

      You're right Judy.

It was definitely not the "best period of my life" and very painful to walk, sit or lie down. One good thing though, the itch was gone! But then, when the wounds had healed.....back came the lesions (bringing all their brothers, sisters, cousins, distant cousins etc.etc along with them!!) Luckily I could then start with Dermovate and send them back where they came from!!! Ha..ha

Don't know why he took so much. At that time I was pretty desperate and did not know what the heck was going on, after suffering for more than two years, whilst being misdiagnosed and treated for Candida. I just agreed when he advised he was booking me in to do the biopsy, as I was so fearful of cancer at that time.

There's evidence isn't there that LS takes advantage of wound sites? So no wonder you then got the symptoms back with a vengeance afterwards. Makes you wonder about the wisdom of biopsies especially humongous ones like yours you poor thing. So glad the Dermovate is doing its job for you.
