Aftercare for biopsy ?

Posted , 5 users are following.

I had a biopsy 6 days ago to confirm LS. Two snips were done on the perideum (?). It looks terrible.  My gyn told me to stop the ointments and the Clob for a week.  It still hasn't healed and I haven't heard the results yet. Could you ladies share your experiences with the biopsies.  Did you continue the Clob use and continue using ointments?  How lond did it take for it to completely heal? She didn't use stitches so the area is still open.

Thank you.

Judy

Thank you so much for asking.  I can't believe that I went to my gny today for the biopsy results.  She said that the lab showed no LS and actually nothing except kerotosis.  She told me that she can't believe the lab results either because she sees the white patches and the change in structure down there...fusing and covering of the clitoris. Has anyone had this happen to them where the biopsy showed no LS but all the symtoms and the structure show LS ?  My gyn has referred me to a Vulva Clinic.

      Hi Judy.

Probably best that you are going to a vulva clinic. I am sure they will be able to give a proper diagnosis there. Try not to worry too much. I know it is easier said than done, but remember that stress adds to our condition.

Take care and I hope that all turns out well and that it's not LS nor LP.

So true.   We can laugh about some things, thank goodness ! But sometimes I get a little angry that I can't to talk about it.  I have always been a private person concerning my body and functions.  But after reading and looking at those awful pictures, I guess I got de-sensitized.  I was angry that all my years I had not paid attention to my body down there...had sex, had kids, cleaned there, but that was it.  I started telling myself my vulva is part of my body just like an arm or hand.  I especially thought, why can't women talk about our vulva...it's crazy not to.  So I got up the courage to tell my two good friends, my sister, and my adult daugther who has gone through menopause herself.  I was very disappointed.  They were very uncomfortable talking about it.  My daugther ask no questions and my sister said, "well," and changed the subject.  My friends ask questions about the biopsy and the diag. but they don't want to hear about the symptoms.  It is truly for me an isolated illness ( I guess the do call it an illness). Oh my husband..when I told him I had something wrong, and I had to use cream, he didn't mention it for three weeks.  We are beginning to talk more about it...especially since I am being referred to a clinic.  Annnd, I even made a joke about it.  We were talking about buying a bed with an elevated head.  I tell him that I didn't need my head elevated, but I may need my butt elevated.  We laughed.  I am progressing !

Hi, I had my biopsy under general anesthetic. My gyn consultant told me before doing the biopsy that at the private hospital I attended the procedure would be done under general anesthetic but if I had attended a NHS hospital the procedure is normally local anesthetic. I had an appointment recently with my gyn. to discuss the positve LS and the management treatment prescribed for me is Dermovate. A biopsy is recommended not only to verify any presence of LS but to eliminate any other possible problems. Much to my relief the biopsy result verified LS but eliminated any vin or malignancy. I had a punch biopsy on one minor labia which had a couple of stiches. I didn't have much discomfort and healed well. Afterwards I used a portable bidet for a week. Once each day I soaked in sea salt disolved in boiled water then cooled to a comfortable temperature. This was soothing and healing. I use Dermal lotion for a soap substitute and moisturiser. My gyn. does a biopsy and waits for results before he prescribes any treatment. I have read that treating LS with steroids before biopsy can affect the diagnosis. I have also read that a biopsy results can prove negative then prove positive with a later biopsy. It does read like you do have LS and I sympathise with your dilema at the puzzling outcome. Hope you get the support and care you need from your doctor. To you and all our fellow sufferers good wishes for some positive progression in coping with this unwanted disorder.
