Hello: I haven't been here for a while, although I check on the discussions. Question. I am traveling in a couple days. By Air it is a 2 hour flight. I had THR R 7 months ago. Doing pretty good. Go to Gym and ride Bike every other day, working Real Estate and doing fine walking. But wondering if I need to ware the Support Stalking on flight. Don't want to, but wonder if I should? It is Denver Airport and a long, long long walk.
I thought If I got up on the plane and walked arouond each 1/2 hour I should be Ok withoug them? Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

First I've ever heard about recommendation with the aspirin. I always wear compression socks when flying.

Hi Gasparilla: I went on my 2 hour flight. 7 Months post op R T HR. I wore my Compression Socks both ways. I walked the airport at Denver, which is so big they have a train. I took my cane, but didn't need it at all. I was very pleased that I could do all that walking. I threw my cane in the car trunk when we got there and didn't need it at all. Also I had to climb lots of stairs and did great. So, I am saying that because of my exercises and riding the bike at the gym every other day that I was prepared for the trip. Rocket Man suggested that I take my cane, so I was glad that I did in Case I needed it. I must say that when we got back to Palm Springs our car was parked way out and by the time I got to the car I would have used the cane had we gone any further But it all worked out well. I didn't think there was any light at the end of the tunnel when I first had the surgery and said I would never do that again if I needed the other hip done But for anyone thinking of having the surgery or is not feeling good after the surgery, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm aware of its being a blood thinner, but haven't seen or heard of recommendation of taking it for flying. I read that aspirin is also not a means for preventing DVT in people who sit motionless while traveling long distances. Aspirin is used to help prevent blood clots in arteries, which can cause strokes and heart attacks. Aspirin does not seem to be very effective at preventing clots in veins.
Wearing compression stockings during long-haul flights of four hours or more can greatly reduce risk of DVT, as well as leg swelling.
Good idea to have some movement while on long flights. If possible, should get up out of seat periodically. Unfortunately that isn't always doable. There are in seat exercises that can be done that can help, including Ankle Circles, Foot Lifts, and Knee Lifts.
