Alcohol, ibs? Pancreatitis? Help!

Does anyone else experience bad ibs pain and gas on left upper abdoman, side and back the day after alcohol? I'm currently waiting to see gastro specialist next month as suffered with upper left pain for 5 years, had all texts ct, ultrasound, bloods, stool, camera down throat at the start but everything was clear. Pain went away for about a year when I left a stressful relationship but has been back since I had my daughter almost 2 years ago. Had additional ultra sound a year ago nothing showed up and loads of blood tests all clear.

I do have the pain anyway but it's much worse after even a small amount of alcohol. I have cut it out completely but had 3 drinks at a wedding last night and pain is bad today plus up in night with upset stomach and anxiety shakes.

It's all really getting me down and if it wasn't for my children sometimes I feel like ending it! Just want to know what's wrong!

I'm paranoid it's my pancreas but at least 10 different  docs say they think it's bowel! I don't have pale stools ever and never vomit.

I also get sharp pains under left breast. All these pains and spasms only last a few seconds but can come quite frequently. Even a&e said they didn't think it was pancreas! Could this really just be ibs?

I know I need to stop drinking if it causes pain and some of you will just tell me never to drink again and I'm not going to cos it's not worth it! Just want to know if anyone else has this?! Feel like something constantly under left rib that rumbles when I push it!

Feel like I'm going crazy!

Hi I had supposed ibs and cyclical vomiting until after over a decade they found that i have 2 reoccuring volvulus's

Thats a notting of small intestine amd large

Luckily it un knots itself and i havent had to have emergency surgery.

I stopped drinking completely from this but suffer from major deprsssion and anxiety

I have had a extremely hard life moms suicide my son killed in a home invasion.

I guess its no wonder my stomach hurt

I also have a hernia and diverticulisis.

Though its funny docs see things so differently

Some docs see my hernia some dont but i have had it for over a decade as well

If they hadnt caught the vovulus on cat scan durjng its rotation i would still be wondering why i have episodes of vomitiing that dont stop without Emeregency room intervention

    Dont give up

I have the same thing- but for me it's anything alcohol or spicy related (spoiled mustard, alcohol, spicy sauces , foods) all give me a strong pain on mid left back and then feel debilitated like minutes after. I got an X-ray and showed no spasm. Need to go to a fricking GI

I have this to natalie for years

i have had liver function tests, ct scan, mri, ultrasound and they cant find anything

its there constantly with pain, and the day after i drink alcohol the pain is much worse, it feels like a constant heavy lump type thing

it really scares me as the pain has started going down my arm, round to my back and into my breast now, it never did these things before, so it is now starting to spread to other areas

the doctors have told me there is nothing they can do, and there are no other tests for this

surely if the pain is spreading then something is very wrong

so im stuck in a rut now sad

I'm so relieved someone else has the same symptoms! I have had abdominal pain for about a year now. It started in my right side at first, all of my labs were normal. I had an MRI that showed a 3mm cyst (benign) in my liver, and no concerning masses. I have had several other labs done, a CT of my gallbladder, all negative.

My only symptom now is left side abdominal pain usually only after drinking alcohol. It burns and aches for days even after a small amount. It radiates to my back and under my ribs sometimes. I can also feel spasms or vibrations in my back. It causes me lots of stress!

Natalie, I"m new to this site, but have been trying to find out what is going on.  I Itch occasionally on the left side right below my rib cage, I have gas, burping sensations too.  I recently drank more than usual and my symptoms chaged..  I had major acid reflux and a bought of hicups on and off for 3 days straight.  Did you find out what was going on with you?  I read that you had itching as well in that area and some of my symptoms.  Thank you  (Daniel)

    Hello Nat and all

Had these same symptoms on and off for about 3-4 years now, same as everyone has described. Natalie or anyone else have you got any further with diagnosis? I had loads of tests when symptoms were the worst about 3-4 years ago (all the above mentioned tests); they found nothing and diagnosed it as IBS. Mine seems to get bought on by alcohol / big night out PLUS times of stress...

    Hi All

I have this or something very similar, about 18 months ago went out for a family meal and had 4 pints of lager over the course of the afternoon, next morning got out of bed and BANG thought i was having a heart attack, left chest 3-4 inches below nipple under the ribcage killed real agony (I am male) could hardly breath, sweating shaking could not stand up fell back onto bed and basically took 2 days to get to walking about, it then felt like i had been punched hard on the left rib cage.

This has since happened to me about 3 times since always after drinking alcohol and never much just a few pints, last sunday I had 2 bottles at a BBQ first drink in a month and boom Monday morning walking zombie, left chest killing, shakeing dizzy shakes etc etc really scary. Today I am at the 'left rib/chest' feels like its been punched by a heavyweight boxer' stage. I describe it as feeling like someone has put a small balloon under my ribcage and alcohol inflates it, a day later the area feels bruised. Its bloody horrible. Thinking of going to the doctors but not a fan and after reading all the tests people have had done with no conclusive results the answer may just be to say goodbye to alcohol forever....

    Hi Natalie,

I too have had these exact symptoms for some time now.  I also feel crazy especially when you try to explain the symptoms to others that haven't had to deal with this.

The only difference between us is that I don't drink and I still have these symptoms.

I was wondering if your diagnosis is still IBS or if you have had further tests and have a different diagnosis now?

Hey Natalie I'm Wade, I was reading your post and realized you're describing the same pain that I've been experiencing. I've been to doctors like you and my bloodwork come back good, although I did find out that I have diabetes. I also have anxiety about it and often can't sleep worrying about it. So I just want you to know you're not alone. If I find out anything more about it, I'll let you know, I hope you'll do the same because same as you, it's also driving me crazy and I know it can't all be in my head. I also have rapid heartbeat and sometimes hard to breathe but I tell myself that it's just anxiety. Who knows? I'm only 35 and although I know that's not a spring chicken, I'm in pretty good shape and I know that I shouldn't feel this way. I hope we get it figured out. Thanks, Wade

Hi.  New here.  Any updates?  Did you ever get an EGD?  Did you rule out gastritis or esophagitis?  Did they rule out pancreas?  Hope you feel better.
