Hi there, I've been reading and one thing stood out as being the most likely cause of post medication fractures. AA permits the depositing of bone material where needed but it also prevents the removal of the old bone as part of the renewal cycle. While this results in the addition of bone, over time there is also crystallization of the old bone and this results in brittle bones that are not tough and fracture easily. So while AA looks good on paper, long-term, the outcome can be anything but rosy and taking AA for even five years is probably enough to increase the susceptability to crack propagation and fracture beyond a safe level if there is such a thing. My doctor has every intention of trying to persuade me to continue AA for the full five years but I'm fairly certain that I will have come up with a suitable natural alternative that works for me, long before the five years is up.

Yeppers.  That's what made me determined to stick to my guns.  Besides, as I happily learned, I don't have osteoporosis anyway, despite what my GP says, which does made my decision much easier to stick to.  I haven't read book, but I've looked at a lot of the website and get the regular emails.  Always something new and interesting.  BTW using her calculator and plugging in my risk factosr, I come out with "high risk" for fracture....  No sugar-coating there.  It's because of prednisone but my dose is now getting quite low.  wink
