All confirmed for tomorrow

I've just phoned the ward and have to go in at 9am instead of 7am.  Better for my son who will be taking me.  They will do the admission procedure in a side room until my bed is ready then that's the bed I'll be going to theatre in.  I'm very relieved it's not going to be postponed or cancelled.  See you all on the other side eek

Don't sweat the operation, have good dreams and sleep. The next week will be hard going and you need your rest. But 12 days later for me (and the death of a parent), I am making amazing strides. Just be sure to have ice packs - really helps with the swelling.

I wish you a good and speed recovery.

Thanks Michael. I am doing okay but it is challenging as POA (my Dad has vascular dementia and Nu home is 30 min away).

We are through the worst and Mom was not responding for a while so I had been saying goodbye to her for a while. And friends have really rallied around to help. The worst is working from a tablet vs my desktop computer - harder to cut and paste much of the info needed.

My Dad managed well overall and held my Mom's hand much of the last two days but was looking for her everywhere today (sigh, poor guy)

Best of luck to you.  You will be fine and home in no time.  I agree with Linda the first week is hard, but take lots of rest and do your excercises you will be amazed how quicky you recover.

    Wishing you all the best

Oh that is great news CelsB . I know you will be fine. They put me on a streacher and brought me back in my bed when I had both mine done. So don't be suprised if they do it that way for you too. They do usually take you to theatre on a streacher or they walk you down to theatre. I bet you can't wait although I know you will be nervous. See you on the other side.

I looked for a 'tips for if your on your own' section on your website Graham.  I thought I'd seen one but it may have been on here.  If anyone has a linlk I'd be grateful.

No, I don't think I have a section for that - probably because I am not on my own, so don't really know a lot about how it feels.  Any input gratefully received.

I don't think it differs so much from general advice.

Stock up with food, put as much as you can higher up (not too high!) so you can reach it easily.

Get emergency supplies like long life milk, part baked bread, tinned food.  Cerials keep a long time, and with milk are nutritious.

Get all the aids you can, and practise with them BEFORE the operation.

I used a travel mug with a lid for the first weeks, I found I could get it in my jeans pocket to transport it.

Over-the-shoulder bag (i used an old camera bag), to transport stuff.

      Grabbers.

Get stick clips (see my site) for sticks and grabbers.

      long shoehorn

      slip on shoes

mobile phone, and list of friends who can help you if you get stuck, and taxi company numbers in case you need them.

Check out your favourite supermarket delivery options.

      pet bowls on sticks

      washing sponge on a stick

      non slip bath/shower mat

      wet wipes

something to occupy you (helps forget the pains), jigsaws, colouring books, music, sewing, knitting, whatever you like.

      Get a pedicure

      Thanks Graham,

Most of that is sorted - must get taxi numbers!

And move DVD players from bottom shelf cheesygrin

I see a feast of Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Harry Potter, Horrible Histories and Yonderland coming up. OH, and a subscription to Netflix!

I'm almost looking forward to this, almost.  Actually, I am eek

Good for you - I am sure you're ready for it, and certainly know what to expect.

      Big hugs
