Hi Ann,
Aww bless you that was me two weeks ago, I cried when the anaesthetist came in and told me what was going to happen, I did have a spinal block and general, when I came round I didn't feel anything I just felt like I'd been on a big night out and was hungover!
The spinal block lasted quite a while and when I did have pain it wasn't too bad as I'd already been given pain killers, to be honest the worst thing for me was the following morning when physio came round and asked me to try getting off the bed, I could not even move my leg an inch, I was upset to say the least but the following afternoon I was home, its amazing how quickly your body gets going!
I am thinking of you keep us updated on how you are doing.
Take Care x

Hi Lulu I'm home now, I ended up having a general as they were unable to get the epidural in. How are you now are you still on crutches ?x

Dear Ann
I was given both but have to say that I really did not enjoy having the epidural put in. Seemed a lot of very uncomfortable faffing about. It was the first I've had so did not know what to expect.
Good luck with your recovery.
Cheers Richard

I had a spinal with sedation - it was brilliant, you will feel much better afterwards, good luck :-)

You'll probable be in theatre by now but good luck, I'm sure it will be fine. And yes recovery is quicker with a spinal.

Maureen please don't put it off I know it all sounds so scary but it is worth it

Dear Maureen
You already know that your hip can go only one way but just leaving it means you are giving up control of the situation.
Booking your surgery now means you can put in place plans including picking the surgeon of choice. Letting things just drift on may well be putting yourself in a situation where the surgery becomes an emergency.
Fitness seems to be an important factor in a good fast pain free recovery but the longer you put the inevitable off the greater the pain you are likely to be suffering so you are likely to be getting less fit. Please do it whilst you are still in a position of control.
Cheers Richard

Hi Ann
i had a spinal with sedation and was unaware of anything. It's asked to roll onto my side and it appeared that the next minute I was awake and it was all over! The spinal meant it gave good pain relief for the next 24 hrs . It took a while to be able to move my legs but was forewarned of that. I was also catheterised for obvious reasons which I hardly noticed. Although I went down at 4 pm was up andwalking the next morning with no discomfort. Just check that you can have sedation, like you I didn't fancy hearing the procedure!!! Good luck I'm sure you'll b eminent. Best wishes.
