All I want for Christmas

I should so happy enjoying my new 11 week hip which is so amazing to me every day the relief I have. My wish for present under the tree would be letter for my surgeon telling me he wil do my other one 6 weeks early on xmas day. Tried xmas shopping so many times & the pain is just unbearable. I don't want to be miserable for xmas or my 50th in January. All the pain meds aren't helping. Bone on bone again. Any movement is agony. I took solpadol at 6 this evening & couldn't move with pain by 8.30 so took tramadol which made me throw up an hour later. Any advice whether medications or otherwise would be appreciated. Can't sleep, walk, stand without pain.

NORSPAN patches, on back of hip, you change weekly, gave me relief in the last few weeks before my hip replacement, don't understand why I had to get to the stage I did before they gave them to me, worked wonders, and didn't make me sick, anything with Codeine, or Morphine makes me sick as a dog, you don't have to put up with being sick, their are other tablets.  Mention to the hospital that you have a reaction to Tramadol. When i went in for my second surgery, after telling them with the first THR, I was going to be sick on morphine, they used it anyway, ended up being very ill on the ward, so second time around, they are telling me I allergic to morphine, and will be using FENTANOL, works the same, are so I'm told, but bonus no vomiting.

I will check that one out thanx Lyn. I'm still awake in pain. Dr gave me butrans patches before 1st hip & didn't work(morphine based) 6 weeks of this pain is awful. Where are u? Maybe my gp never heard of ur norspan patches. It's bone on bone again but pain seems worse this time. Maybe it's extra length on new side that's aggravating other hip.

Gossip - I found Norspan patches on google.

If I remember correctly he gave me 10mg patches, but they can and do double up the patches if you need the pain relief, I never did, thankgoodness. I believe the only problems you can have with them is being addicted, but even that can be dealt with, been there and done that after hysterectomy, its called step down, and Dr's do know about step down or should.

It was a Dr who gave me the method. basically you just start extending the time between doses, if you are taking pain killer every 4 hours, you extend to every five hours, and then every six hours.

You only change the timing about once a week, I managed to change my timing down to 4-5 days, coudn't believe just how easy it was, after having major withdrawl symptoms, vomiting, stomach cramps, (OHHHHH THAT WAS BAD), back in hospital 5 hours after being discharged, to none, or very minor.

Oh thinkin of you, I wonder if your pain is nerve pain, even Morphine isn't going to knock it down. There are tablets the Dr can give you for nerve pain. LYRICA is a nerve pain blocker, but it takes some time to start working from my understanding, maybe there are nerve pain blockers that work quicker, hopefully your Dr can help.  I am in Queensland, Australia

I feel myself that it could be nerve pain Lyn as pain is in hip, knee & ankle sometimes. I'm going to speak to GP again to see if I can get some relief until my op. Thanx for ur feedback x

    dearest gossip ....

I am so incredibly sorry ... I know it darling, been there too !   nothing seemed to help stop the pain - SO difficult to face the holidays and milestone birthday coming up as well -

In addition  to the pain I also started to become very anxious acouple of weeks before 2nd surgery .  My GP prescribed me anti-anxiety medication and that helped a little bit  - took the edge off so to speak - maybe because my muscles were more relaxed .

Can you call the doctor's office and tell them, ask them perhaps if they can schedule your surgery for an earlier date -

Listen Michele, don't get too stressed about being not at your best or just feel miserable with the holidays , okay -

it is what it is, sweetheart, and what is SUCKS right now ...

I wish I could tell you more and take that pain away ...

come back here and rant as much as you want ... unless you have experienced this kind of pain, nobody will be able to understand it ...

    angel blessings, reiki healing rays

    big warm hug

    renee
