All Restrictions Lifted at 4.5 weeks post op

Hi Hippies, I've been to see the consultant and he has said all restrictions lifted (although still have to be sensible) and he will see me again in 10 months time. Came out of there carrying my one crutch I had gone with and a 'fit to work note' which means after a short few days away I will be back to work on the 6th. Will really like knowing what day it is and getting back to some normality. I feel I have been very lucky and made an amazing recovery. Hoping all you fellow hippies out there get on really well and are soon fully recovered. The having no pain is a wonderful feeling I feel as if life has been on hold for the past 11 months and wish I could turn back the clock and make the decision to have had the operation sooner.

Take Care All x

Wow, you sound like you have made an amazing recovery. I am also 4.5 weeks and I couldn't even contemplate going back to work yet.

    Well done! X

    Nice one Kazzie 😊

I'm starting half days from home, not at that tilting point yet!

Little over two weeks post op myself and cannot agree more on the feeling of wasted time. The insane amount of pain reduction is almost euphoric. Which can be dangerous!

I'm hoping for a similar recovery time, that would be great! I do have to go and have the other done later in the year, but being able to have a near normal vacation in between woukd be awesome 😊

Good luck on the 6th! Do let us know how all goes!

Oh wow well done, you have done fantastic.  I am 6 1/2 weeks and had my restrictions lifted last night.  Drove home from hospital.  Obviously still have to build up gradually regards bending, etc.   Yes as son as the op aches and pains disappear we will be waltzing around lol x

Me too, had op on 28th April and have to use 2 crutches for 6 weeks but I do occasionally use 1 in doors! X

They just said that it takes 6 weeks for the bone to graft into the implant, I've not got cement so it that which holds everything in place.  By using two crutches you reduce the risk of moving your legs, feet, body in a direction which may hinder this process.  I did ring and double check at 3 weeks but they were quite adamant!

All I know is I ceramic socket and ball in to metal and he said I had a shallow  socket ,

No. No readon other than different surgeons have different ideas. I was the only one on the ward who had a ceramic hip, so not sure if that made a difference. I'm quite large too, even though I lost 6 stone, so perhaps that affects things too neutral

Paula, that is so helpful knowing this. Are you finding yourself under pressure from friends who are questioning this? One friend was expecting me to throw my crutches aside last week (after 2 weeks!). I'll be blowed if I'm taking chances...

Hi, not friends, more myself!  I know people who have had the surgery and didn't have to use for 6 weeks. Mine is ceramic on ceramic, I'm 46 and only about 2 stone over weight.  I have to admit I've tried to walk without but I do have a big limp. Will continue on 2 until I have 6 week check on 15th June which will be nearly 7 weeks. I'm not going to beat myself up and I'm certainly not going to rush things x

My check is on 22June - almost 7 weeks too.

I'm 52. I've waited 10 years to get to this point, and the terror of it going wrong is keeping me on track :-)

I have just turned 47 and about 3 stone over weight and go back on the 10th June 2 days before 6 weeks

My surgeon never told me if mine was

He told me at the pre-op. He was going to show it to me when I had surgery (I was awake), but I forgot to ask. smile

Pre op I asked what I was getting he said a good old tradition hip lol

then after the op which I was out for over 5 hours because when they got to joint I had a shallow socket so had to change hip  to a ceramic socket and ball to metal but did not have right size metal bit so had to get from another hospital which is why I was so long in op

      Oh blimey!

I'm glad I didn't have to go through that. Poor you.

One thing I do know is that I will be well sedated with the next hip...
